the gear oil is coming from the inside where the pinion nut is.  i would say you could pull that off and put rtv on it but i think you will need to re set your back lash on your pinion.

Why? If you're not messing with the adjusters or anything there isn't a need. It's a good idea to check the backlash while it's out, but I doubt you have a dial indicator handy.

I would think it's a bad seal. I'm guessing stock thirds? You'd have to undo the pinion nut and pull the flange to see. The problem with taking off the pinion nut is that you can mess up the preload on the pinion bearings.

Look here if you want to find more info on the inner working of toyota diffs: http://gearinstalls.com/

Peterbuilt84

Nice! Always a good thing to have. I'd definitely recommend checking the backlash then if you plan on taking out the third.

THK Matt

Gears and Lockers bro.

Also... check it.
fully reassembled. (lemme restate that, i had to search for a bolt to hold the dial on. you took all the bolts for the hub lockouts, both sets.. haha)

Alittle update...

Got my RUF's made, and 3/4's hanged :P

And here is the back half all painted up and not rusty  :yesnod:

Nimyad

It's coming together nicely. You planning on using straight shackles and trimming your body mount, or boomerang shackles?

Mudfanatic92

I have a guy who made a really nice set of boomerang shackles and I'll see if he is willing to make some for me... Otherwise I'll use straight

May be a bit more for a bench....

Mudfanatic92

ummm... i know some peeps, lets just say.

THK Matt

I'm sure it'd be more for a bench. lol I want a mossyoak camo bench seat. I'm doing mossy oak carpet, with custom interior panels with mossyoak fabric. :P it's gonna look pimp!! Gonna use the old panels as templates.

Got my tube in today for my 4th tire that has a leaky sidewall that no tire shop will fix. :)

Mudfanatic92

Alright, not much has changed besides getting the tube installed and the tire put on the axle. Did get a longer U-bolt for the passenger side of the axle.  Need to build up more funds for my pit.

Now it will slow down do to some other project that i both need and cause its always fun to build things.  :yesnod:

This build thread has just now entered a new chapter. It is now gonna have me finishing my recently acquired trailer frame(also cause im too lazy to start another thread).

So the dimensions of the trailer are:

20' 1" X 8'
Dual 3500# axles? which is also setup for a 3rd axle

What i do need is:

Decking
Electrical
Reinforcements
Ramps
Drive overable Fenders

Also gonna add a 4' beaver tail so that i can not only haul my toy around, but haul around Matts runner round so the cost of my fuel goes down on wheeling trips

THK Matt

Can't wait bro. progress should pick up for us here again, soon.
