What brakes are we using? stock 85 brakes or are you going to FJ60 rotors and calipers from an 86-95 ifs truck/4runner?

his axle is the 85 with the full bottom gusset and mine is the other one with a short gusset. if that helps out figuring out which axle is which. my gf went camera happy.

So a short summary would be, as you can tell, axle rebuild day.  Got to Matts house and unloaded and started tear down. Made a huge mess of course due to the nasty gear oil mixed with grease. So after tear down we started to roughly grind down all the needed bracketry and ent to the car wash and power washed the knuckles and axle housing. After ward was MORE grinding and making everything pretty and smooth which was then I decided to take a 36 grit flap disc to my index finger. After we got it all taped up with electrical tape and a blue shop towel, we started with the rebuild. Got the new races in, then new bearings, then put knuckles on... well the we forgot about the knuckle seals, so we took off the knuckles and installed the knuckle seals. After that we got the high steer arms on and got the diff in. When i was about to put the Birfs in, i realized we for got the new inner axle seals. So i decided to do that but then i boogered one up and now short an axle seal... and got only one birf in.

Now today im gonna pick up some FJ60 Rotors from oreilly's and then hopefully get some IFS/V6 calipers at the junkyard tomorrow.

THK Matt

I should have a new inner seal today and have it rebuilt by Saturday when you come to pick it up. If you haven't gotten any paint yet, i can do so and also have it painted. give me a paint them and ill spray it out.

Here is my axle all spiffy'd up! Thank you again Matt! You rock!

Mudfanatic92

Got my rotors now and I'm gonna put them on my hubs within the next couple days. It's slowly coming together... So excited!!

THK Matt

Got the remaining gaskets put on, cut down the dust shields, and torqued the spindles down to oem spec.
It is now ready for the rebuilt hub assemblies. Soon as Cody can swap the new FJ60 rotors onto the hubs, I can repack the bearings and put the new seal on and install them onto the spindles. and button it up. then all it needs is the tie rod installed and aligned to a "35in tire".

Unfortunately not this current moment in time... Funds need to elsewhere more important... But I will eventually put armor on both axles.

Nimyad

At least do a ring gear guard, you'll hate yourself as soon as we go wheeling up compressor creek and pop your diff and trash a ring and pinion.

zebracrawler

Still want the specks for that hanger?
