You can find 2L's , 2LT's and 3L's here in the US. They won't be fast, but will have lots of low end torq.

I would start looking here http://car-part.com/index.htm

I went with a nissan SD22 because they use a machanical injection pump and have a timing chain not a belt.

It comes in 81 thru 83 720 Nissan pickups. It is a 2.2L 4 cyl. You should have SD25's over there  I can't find them here. There is also a TD28. but can't find any info on them.

BTW nice pics you posted on the other thread.

The 720 is just a standard 2wd pickup, the patrol is like the land cruiser, but Nissan. WE don't have Patrols here, I wish we did.

In OZ you have three choices of engine in a HiLux:
3RZ-FE with W56 (2WD)
5L-E with G52 (2WD)
5VZ-FE with R150F (4WD)
5L-E with G52 (4WD)
1KZ-TE with R151F (4WD)

All the above transfer cases are chain driven. Only the 1KZ-TE is turbo-charged. It's heavier than a Buick V6 and has an alloy head.
The 5L-E is lighter than a Buick V6 and has an iron head. The 1KZ has twin balance shafts in it. Toyota uses the 5L in their Dyna trucks with a 2WD HD 5 speed gearbox. The 1KZ-TE and earlier 1KZ-T with stock bellhousing will bolt to a R151F sourced from a 86-87 US market turbocharged truck/4Runner.

The 5L engine with its stock motor mounts and bellhousing will exchange for any US Toyota running a 22R/22R-E and G52 or W56 gearbox. The older 5L has a mechanical injector pump, the 5L-E is electro-mechanical.  Same is true of the 1KZ-T versus 1KZ-TE.

There are several aftermarket suppliers in OZ offering turbokits for the 3L and 5L equipped Hiluxes.

i've got a 2l (2.4d) in my 4x4. does great for me, mine is a rare origional made for the u.s. '84.  with 33"s and 4.88's i get around 30 mpg and soon beter i recon with 35"s it's easy to get around smog with a conversion and lots of engines can bolt right in including a 1.9 tubo vw. check out www.toyotadieselmadness.com for everything you want to know.   fritz
