Really debating weather or not to run the 302. I am really on the fence to run either a 22RE or the 302.

We have a 302 sittin here, but it most likely needs a rebuild and most if not all new accessories. With that, I dont really know what trans to run. I would like to run a Toy trans and Tcase, so Im thinkin W56. Will it hold up? And finding an adapter or making one? I know that NWOR has one but Im not really down for spending and ass load of money. This is kind of a budget build

I dont really have any RE stuff. All I really have is a 85 block, but no crank or rods, and a R/RE head. So Im in close to the same boat on both engines.

Maybe swap in a 3RZ?

This is what I got told when looking at doing my SB swap in my 85. "The Toyota tranny will hold up great as long as you dont put your foot in it." (NWOR support) "What is the fun in haveing a SB in a Toyota if you can't get on it?" (My response)
"I understad what you are saying, but the Toyota tranny is not meant for that kind of abuse." (NWOR support)

Yeah I have been readin that on SB builds. I think I might go with a 3rz if I can find one.

My buddies buddy had an 85 PU with a blown motor for 450 that I wanna get for parts.

A while back there was a 3RZ long block for like $100 near me; kept popping up on craigslist. You'd need the whole wiring business, but it'd be a start. The guy I got my sheet metal from has a 3RZ; I can check what he wants but I think it's $400? He also has an EFI engine and a carb'd engine... both complete.

Didn't I already say that?

What engine is it set up for? The 22r/re still? If so I'd just find a motor and slap it in. Easiest way to get it wheeling imo.

I'll keep an eyeball out for engines if you're still doing a 22R/RE install. Wish I hadn't scrapped all my 4-cyl stuff, but that crank needed work and the cylinders were bellmouthed so it would have been more work than it would be worth.

Picked up the solid front and W56C for $200 today. Also got a v6 built v6 housing and shafts for free on Monday. Its coming together quickly. All I really need now is an engine and maybe some 63" chevys to get this show on the road. I am almost thinkin of running a 20r/22r hybrid for a while. I have all the parts, just need to the machining and assembly.

Looks like I am gonna be running a 22r in this sucker for a while. My buddy is swapping to a RE and I'm gettin the old engine, which he just put in. I just wanna get this sucker out on the trail sooner than later. I will make the engine swap later down the road. They hybrid is most likely going in my buddy's new to him 81. I am also running over the idea of Digi snow camo on the runner. I think it would look BA.

I have picked up a few more parts. Got a 4.10 3rd for the rear to match my front and a power steering box since the one that was on it went to my buddies truck. All I need now before I start the chop and weld now is rear leaf springs, front spring hanger, and an engine. I am for sure going with a 22r with a weber. Its gettin pulled out of my buddies 84. It has 150 comp on all cyls and runs like a champ. He is swapping to 22re with propane
My front axle with 4.10s

W56

Tcase from the truck when I swapped it for the 4.7 case. (I  might put the 4.7 in here though)

V6 rear housing (I do have the shafts too) with armor, diff breather and triangulated shock mounts. Got it for free haha. My buddy paid $100 for it and all he wanted was the welded third.

I have been playing around with this idea for a while. I know its narrow but I am looking at getting another from a friend of mine, to splice into this one to make the proper width. I think it will look pretty sick once all is said and done.

Always nice to get a pile of parts going  Why is your buddy switching to a 22re? Isn't propane easier with a carb?

That's what I was thinking. But he is pretty much dead set on EFI with propane. :dunno:

Good to finally see some parts piling up even if its not the original plan, keep it up!    Not sure I fully understood what you were thinking of doing with the rear axle, but sounds a little  :willynilly: to me.

For sure. I really can't decide where I want to go with it haha. But bringin in parts makes me feel better about finally getting started on it. What do you mean about the rear axle bit?
