Some thoughts for the runner.
Im tryin to decide what transfercases I want to run. I would like to run duals. I can make duals out of a NP203 and a NP 205 or I can run dual Toys.

The adapter for the NP's cost like $700. It is a clockable adapter and I dont need another adapter to put the Toy cases to the C4 or C6.

Marlin MC07 XD is $329 0 deg or 10 deg dont matter. The trans to xfer from Advanced Adapters is $600. NWOR does have an adapter but there is no price on their site. Might have to call them.

Then a B&M floor shifter for the C4 is gonna be $200ish from Summit.

Then, do I try to sell the 81 rear end and buy a stouter Ford 9" to hold up to the power of the V8? The front axle, I hope, is going to be a 9.5 out of a Land cruiser.

Anyone have some input?

I wouldn't run toy axles or the toy cases behind a v8 :twocents: Just save up and buy an atlas

x2 I would go all out and get the proper drivetrain for the v8. Or scrap the v8 idea and keep it toyota that just my  :twocents:.

Edit: just read more on your plans, definately stay away from the yota cases and go the other route. Screw the 9" get a 14bolt for the rear and a dana 60 up front.

Thats what I decided. I will be going with 60s and the NP cases. Its gonna take me a minute to save up the greens to build her up but she'll get there. Still hopin to have it at least trail bashin by the end of July.

I'll PM ya; think they're from RJS? I have the box in the shop... somewhere. They are a few years old though, maybe 2005? That scares some people; "old belts" or whatever. I may have 3500 total miles riding on them since the engine kinda died last year.

Ha for sure. I jus need to start collecting parts for it now. I have the engine in the shop. It just needs to be cleaned and built. Gotta find me some cheapish builder parts to start with.

Since finding a better job is proving harder than I had anticipated, I am gonna run Toy axles. 8" in the rear and a 9.5" LC in the front. I will end up working towards bigger and better further down the road. Dad said that he would donate the 302 for the build, so no expense there. Now just to get the tcase and tranny. I will prolly end up pulling the rear end here soon to tear down and clean up.

Ahh the Toyota axles should be fine. Just don't get to carried away with power mods to the 302. Most stock 302's are around 185-220 hp. My turbo 22ret is putting out around 260hp and my taco rear is holding up to some 42'tsl's and i'm not nice to it. LOL In the front I have a hi pinion elocker,27 spline longs and hub gears and ARP hub studs. After 2 mud bogs and 2 local top truck challenges I did manage to twist the 27 spline inner short shaft. The longs are 6 years old and I ran 38.5 Baja claws for 4 years prior with a NA 22re.
1986 4Runner turbo sas high pinion,E-locked 4:88's,taco rear Detroit locker,22ret forged everything,
duels mc07-r10 cut 42's.

Thats a pretty good track record with that much HP. Thats the only thing I was worried about wit running the V8. I dont wanna be breakin left and right. Im definitly going to run Longs when I get the money to drop on them.

I got the money to buy the LC axle for Christmas. I have also been turning over the idea of puttin R151F or W56B and dual toy cases behind the 302. After alot of research I decided that it wasnt viable to run a Ford auto or T18 in there. Its also alot cheaper in the long run. It wont be long before I start really buildin up the parts pile. I started getting more hours at work so the money is coming in better.

I think the LC birfs are bigger then the mini truck ones. Should hold up for awhile. The r151 should hold up ok. The trans is basicly the same ones used in the supra's and they are making some big power. I think this will be a sweet runner when your done. I considered running the 5.0 in my runner but I wanted to keep it all toyota. Can't wait to see some progress.

As far as I have read the birfs are the same size in 40, 60, and Mini truck. The only difference looks like spline differences. I think.
I plan on havin a BA rig when all is said and done. I wouldnt mind running all Toyota but, I can't really beat a free 302 haha. I really can't wait to start working on it.

Me too... got a 2wd T100 oil pan ordered today; maybe the engine will be installed by February. Wood blocks and a ratchet strap do not count as engine mounts.  :shakehead:

Other than that it's an ass-ton of nut-and-bolt stuff to get it back together. And that 22R coil is still buried in the cab.

I dunno about driving to BV on 37s though; I know it can be done but I may get some smaller "road-friendly" tires to roll out and swap to trail meats at the camp.

Yeah I was out lookin at the donor engine yesterday... :ack: I skepticle about it now. The heads are off, no timing stuff, no rockers. Plus I dont know what the compression or oil pressure was like when it DID run. I may be lookin for a parts truck with new donor motor soon. Maybe a 351 parts truck.

Get that stuff started haha. I will have to come by one day for another parts run lol. I have to go to the Springs to get that front axle anyway.

As for the 37s, I will prolly feel them out on the hiway then if I dont like em Ill find some rollers to ride on to camp.

My buddy is kinda working on trading a plow for an 86 4Runner on 44/9" with 350/TH350 and 205 case; dunno if you're set on a Ferd engine or not, but this Chevy sounded good. I just want the body/frame; all else will be parted... if the deal goes through.   :crossed:  :crossed:  :crossed:

and it's sitting on some sweet-ass 38" Thornturds  :stopit:

Nice lol. The only real reason that I was gonna use a Ford engine was cuz my dad has a few layin around and was willing to donate to the project. If it wasnt for that I would prolly just stick with a Toy engine
