So im a pretty fair guy and overall easy going. But one thing I wont tolerate is people trying to screw m over. I recently purchased some new wheels and tires. 16/8 wheels and 285/75/R16 tires. Took them up to my local Les Shwab tire center to have them mounted balanced. I was even taking the old ones with me. And the guy at the couner typed it in and said that will be $186. I the laughed in the guys face and said are you serious. He responded. Yes it alot of work. I replied your a tire shop and informed him the dealership would do it for around 90 and if they could match that. He said no and I walked out laughing.  Ive heard crappy things about them but wow.
If you see it, its for sale.

Wermz84

That seems really excessive.  What happened to your stuff if you just walked out?

It was still all sitting in the back of my truck. They werent even putting them on the truck just mounting and balancing them. I was gonna put them on when I got home.

Gotcha. I thought they had already done the labor.

Sounds like one of the stories I've had.  Took a pair of tires and a pair of wheels (no tires on them) to be mated together and the local tire shop still tried to charge me a "Mandatory Tire Disposal Fee".  I said, what are you disposing of?  The guy just looked me with a deer in the headlights look and said, "It's a mandatory fee".  I also walked.

Walmart is pretty fair on all of their services, even with the oil changes. If they have it in stock they will put in any of their oil products for the same charge. Of course the bulk oil is less and the synthetic is a bit more. The one thing to remember though is they are Walmart trained and after running one of their shops I always keep an eye on them. Some of the guys really know what they are doing but some are complete bonehead wannabes. They are the highest paid general associates in the place if that amounts to anything. There should be a wall with the certified techs, if you see anyone working on your vehicle that is not on that wall be afraid very afraid. It's pretty strange that when the safety check is trigged in the system that an assistant manager that generally has no idea of what is going on comes over and checks a techs work. Usually the tech shows them everything so they will sign off the trigger.

It always varies a little, but we had an f350 come in today with mounted tires/wheels in back.  We dismounted the tires off the wheels on the truck and the ones in the back, then mounted the tires that were in the back on the wheels going onto the truck;  mount/dismount/balance/install = $80.  Did some bigger ones the other day for $100 I believe.  $186 seems quite excessive.

pfft. they should really only charge you for valve stems and balancing. $80 is fair, $45-$60 is more like it.

Walmart!HA! I work for a toyota dealer in the valley and we get calls from the walmart across the street almost 2-3 times a week requesting oil pan prices and replacement drain plugs! Their prices maybe cheap but you end up paying in the long run! :smack:

Rocksurfer

Hmmm, never had that issue since I was able to order any and all types of drain plugs and kept them in stock for almost every vehicle possible. I do have to say that the training was available to just about anyone even if you didn't know squat about cars. Maybe it was just my location but we were pretty much all very knowlegable on vehicles in general and even had a factory trained tech and a girl that was ASE certified. Don't ask me why I or they actually worked there. Maybe just the economy put them in there as it did me. Just like any business you will have some real worthless people come through but that can happen anywhere. I even had one of the guys from All-Pro come in to get his oil changed there. Granted I was only at one location so I can't speak for all the other locations but we were a good team and knew what we were doing. That being said I did have a few people go through there that had no business being there but they never lasted more than a couple weeks.
