My starter started clicking a while back and I put a new one in it.  I put the old one in another truck and it has no problems tried swapping it out again.  I'm wondering if it's something with my wireing.  I swapped starter back around again and same thing.  I have tried jumping the solonoid wire over and it still doesn't start.

Also, I have noticed that some starters sound like they crank a lot faster than others.  any idea why or what the difference is in the starters?  I had a buddy lose his starter on the trail over the weekend.  it has always been a really fast cranking starter.  replaced it with a napa starter and now it cranks slow.  any idea's/suggestions would be appreciated.

If you can't convince them, confuse them.

They all should be the exact same but a good power wire to the starter would make it crank faster.  It sounds like your power wire to the old starter was corroded or something.

have you checked to make sure it's getting power, good power, and that when you turn the ignition switch to start the truck that your getting power to the plug? I had one truck I had contact issues on the plug but after cleaning it was good as new. This should be a simple fix. Good luck.

You can take the solenoid apart and check/clean or replace the contacts.

When I replaced my original starter with the non hd napa version it cranked slower, but was still getting the same voltage as before.

I have had several toyotas in my time, everyone of them had the starter click problem. I have never bought a new starter for any of them its a 5 dollar repair to remove the solenoid contacts abd replace them. good as new... kinda!
