Topic: Cold start issue for 87 4runner

Been trying to fix this issue for a year and haven't had much luck.The rig starts fine in warmer climates anything over 50*.Then once below cold degrees it has a rough time starting / turning over specially in the winter but still starts and run.It is an 87 toyota 4runner 22RE Auto     This little issue has been a kicker for my Dad and I.Any one got any ideas?

You should describe more bout what its doing when its hard to start when its cold.  Like does it crank over normal speed ?  Does it just turn over to 30 secs till it starts ?  When it starts does it have a rough idle for a few secs ?

When it turns over most of the time it just cranks there for maybe like 5 minutes or so then does start but when it is super cold sometimes it won't even crank over it just tries to start I haven't tried to start in a while but when it is warm like 70 plus it has no problem starting and does it right away.Sadly I just haven't had time or been home to mess around with it and get it fixed.

Ya know it almost sounds like your battery is too weak when its cold but its hard to say without being there. 
Checking the cold start injector and related parts would be a good start.

Nope the battery is new last spring it a durolast 800 volt yellow top battery.

Have you checked the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor)? I found my '89 was hard to start when cold. It would take several cranks. I went through the whole cold-start system and all was fine. Then I checked the TPS following the FSM, and found it needed to be replaced. I'm not sure how the TPS relates to cold, but it starts right away now. It also has more power/response and doesn't bog down nearly as much on the hills. Good lucK!
