New to Toyotas - Tucson AZ
« on: Jun 02, 2011, 10:13:29 PM »
Hi, well as the title says I'm new to Toyota's.  I bought a 91 Toyota PU, Excab, SR5, 4wd, 3.0L, 5psd, it has 35's and a 3"body lift.  The list of "needs" on this truck is huge!!!!  The body looks horrible, the front 3rd member is missing, as well as the cv's and drive shaft.  And just to name a few of the "needs" - P/S leaks at the res, radiator drain thingy is broken so I can't drain it, needs most all hoses (dry rot), belts, intake tube is duct taped to the throttle body, since it has a body lift the frt bumper was held on by the end 12mm bolts, ignition switch is hacked (looks like it had been a theft recovery at one point, but the vin matches - title, frame, door tag and dash)  :blah:

Anyways, I have my weekends planned out for awhile with this truck! So far I've installed a used hood, small repair on the core support, battery ends, battery, tie down, window hand cranks knobs and repaired the seats (cause they didn't move forwards or back and bolted down the bed! I would turn right and the bed would move left!!!  :gap:

Also if there's anyone in the Tucson area that'd like to shoot the :pokinit: sometime, I'd love to pick your brain about these trucks!  I've been reading many post on YotaTech for the past 2 weeks and decided I needed all the input I can get!

Ultimately my plans of use are to explore mines, ghost towns and have a reliable vehicle to drive from my home, explore and drive back!  Eventually I'd like the down size to 33's, remove the body lift and install an actually suspension lift, remove the ABS (since the dash light is on anyways) and just go through EVERYTHING!  :yikes:

On to the pics...!

(with the used hood installed)

(trying to figure out this mess of wires!)

Thanks guys!

Unfortunately no work on the Toyota, unless you call power washing the undercarriage for the third time (used the two post lift at work and the big gas dewalt sprayer).  Oh and also I scotchbrited the truck today, the PO rattle canned the, this truck will be functional, and not pretty!   :gap:

Other than a battery and some terminals, not very far!

Tomorrow I hope to get a new radiator, and start on hooking up the Taurus fan mod.  Also did a cheapo paint job tonight, I painted the truck Desert Flat Khaki!  Looks WAY better than the previous black!

Yup, Rustoleum Camouflage Series - Khaki, I used 7 cans and the undercarriage was Rustoleum Satin Black almost 3 cans

Thanks guys, I'm thinking of doing a stripe down the side with maybe the same type of paint, but OD green, I've got a ps'd pic around here somewhere...

This pic is photoshoped with the graphic and cut the rear bed flare area, this will give me a good idea of what it'll look like!  :gap:
