89 4Runner Rear Window Stopped Working - Help!
« on: Apr 24, 2011, 08:35:18 PM »
Today I finally put my hard top back on after running my soft top in Moab.  The rear window worked great before I took the top off, but isn't working at all know that the hard top is back on.  My electrical engineering buddy helped me put the top on so we check for power at the motor and he didn't get anything and we also tried to reset the breaker thing next to the fuses.  I have not had a chance to see if there is any power at the switch, but would love any help or advise on where to look.  It's supposed to rain most of this week so getting the window up is important.  The motor isn't making a sound so we're pretty sure that it's just not getting any power.

Any ideas?

Take a 12 volt battery and hook it straight to the motor and see if it goes up o down.

Second or third bolt on the drivers side triggers a switch that allows the window to go up or down. Too long of a bolt and you break the switch. Too short and it doesn't engage. Start there.

Also, if you get the oppurtunity, unplug this switch, toss it, and run a jumper wire from one terminal to the other. Window will always active. Be careful if you do it though. If you've got the top off, and you inadvertantly hit the switch, the window will roll up and disaster will follow.

Thanks.  I'll try to mess with some of the tips this week, maybe tonight.  I'll report back.

Here's where the switch is from 4crawler.com should help you with that plus the site has some other tips that you can check like the wiper causing it etc, etc.

The rear window is working again.  I managed to put one of my longer than stock bolts in the location of the switch.  I must have pushed it past the contacts but didn't seem to do any real harm.  I don't think it has any spring left in it so it's essentially bypassed, but everythings working great now.  The switch was under the 2nd bolt from the back on the drivers side.

Thanks for the help!
