ive been thinkin about tryin to get on with them for a little bit now and i was curious if anyone here works for them and if so how do you like it? Also how did you get the job ? i would imagine there is some sort of online application ?  ive been a plumber for the last six years now and i kinda want to get into something a little different. I think doin somethin along the lines of underground utilities would be cool .

I applied, took all the tests, the assessment for apprentice lineman, and interviewed well,  about 4 years ago.  Never got a call.  They have so many applicants, getting a job with them is like winning the lottery.  It's definitely worth a try, and I wish you the best of luck.

What is company wide? do you know what states they service?

superyota

i worked for pg&e through the local 1245(IBEW).  never worked for them directly.  but i know it's really hard to get on with them, unless you know people that can pull strings.  log onto the pge.com website and create an account under careers, then start applying.  thats the only way.  then get someone who works there to push your application to the front.

Superyota is right apply with pg&e keep current with what is going on. The gas explosion that happened in the bay area has probably slowed down hiring for a while. That will cost them a lot of money. I would guess in the next few years there will be hiring going on, just be persistent.
There were a lot of people hired in the mid 80 so they are getting close to retiring. The pg&e
service area is form Santa Maria north to the Oregon border, and west side of the Sierras

HR has changed the way they hire people now. Having someone pull strings might work if you worked for the company before as a regular employee or hiring hall,  we called that the "good ol'boy club". I have a few buddies that want to get hired and I talked to a few supervisors and they all told me the same thing, "have your friends go to pge.com and fill out the online application".

Good luck

My mom worked and retired from PG&E  And also my Uncle worked there Forever.   he is way up there with that place .I think he is semi retired know ?   very good benifets and retirement .  I know they had programs for summer jobs for employees kids .  You just need to get your foot in the door and  wait for postions to open up .

mudguts

I do. They are hiring pre-apprentice lineman via the internet with preferences given to line college grads, vets and power pathway attendees through local silly colleges. Your best chance of getting hired from the street is follow the career site on the home page. If they are hiring for utility worker, apply for it and except whatever they offer. even if it's in timbuktu. goodluck.
