I am thinking about buying my dad's 2002 Jeep Liberty. It has the six cylinder and a manual transmission. He recently messed up his back and leg at work and can no longer drive it. Does anyone on here have a Liberty? Have you had any problems? Anything else CONSTRUCTIVE to say about them?

Thank you.

Well I am not driving the Toyota 10 hours to and from college every few weeks! It does have a manual transmission so at least some of the :gay: is negated. It rides like :pokinit: but I have plans to fix that if I do buy it from him.

if 4.0 it will run for 250K miles easy

KDXSR5

It is the 3.7 V6 engine. I don't think the Libertards were available with the 4.0.

My stepdads 03 that he bought with 80k miles has been pretty great. It has 204k miles on it and runs awesome. Trans is perfect too.

The only problem it has is with the transfer case. If in 4wd, it makes a grinding noise in reverse.

I'd recommend one.

I work a 2000 BMW 540i 6 speed

The only problem I have noticed so far is one of the doors doesn't quite seal all the way anymore, but it only has 95,000 miles on it ??? Is that just a unibody issue? Or?

Constructive....  OK...  I've never had one block the trail (since they don't get much past the trailhead)

IMO If you are seriously considering a Jeep Id look at a ZJ, WJ, or WK but since its in the family and you could likely get a good deal on the Liberty Id go for it if you guys havent had any issues with it so far. Did your family buy it new?

Yeah, they seem to be pretty popular. I haven't seen another one with a manual, but I haven't really been looking either.

No manuals in those (I really don't want an auto, been there, done that, I fall asleep) + we had a grand cherokee for a few year and it was a HUGE pile of :pokinit: It always had something going wrong with it.

My dad just bought it maybe 6 months ago. It was owned by Jeep and used as a company vehicle. He then had an accident at work and can no longer drive a manual vehicle for more than about 10-15 minutes.

Checking the tranmission fluid could be a challenge if yours didn't come with the dip stick option. Some years came with a yellow cap and others came with the dip stick. Also they have lots of problems with the power window regulators. I know this isn't constructive but it's my experience working for a company that has a lot of these.

Unibodies suck for offroad, if you use it offroad it will fail. I know several people that have wheeled unibodies and eventually they start to crack in two litterally. I saw a Grand Cherokee that had a large hole under the rear seats big enought to stick your head through.

Is that on models with an automatic? This one has a manual. I have never seen a manual with a dipstick.

Hmmm this one seems to not have any problems with those, but it is definitely something I will look out for.

The most offroad this thing will probably see is dirt hills and dirt roads. I am getting it more for a highway vehicle than anything, but if i do get it I will be putting subframe strengthening on it and such.

Missed the part about it having a manual transmission.

as it is a jeep. you can get lift kits for it... and "leveling" kits... we had one traded in where i work, had a small lift and i think 33's which were huge for it...  rode way nicer than the factory ride...  window regulators are an issue.

i know its not a diesel but i guess just an FYI the turbos on the diesels are not avail redialy in the aftermarket for those, and they are expensive 1200$+

This is good, because I plan an putting a small OME lift on it, and stock it rides like a buckboard wagon in the rear.

BUDDERS

My neighbor has one and he hates it.  It's been in 4 times under warranty for window regulator issues, now it's out of warranty and they won't cut him a break....

My sister in-law has one (2wd though) but other than the ride quality and window regulator issues that have already been addressed.  They do like it and it seems to have a decent amount of power and decent mileage.
