T case parking brake
« on: Jan 24, 2011, 11:56:48 AM »
Ok i did a search and didn't come up with much on this.  What are people using?  Good, bad, like, dislike?  I am planing on doing a disk brake swap into my 4runner soon which will eliminate my parking brake and looking for options.  I know they have rear disk brake kits were the caliper has a built in parking brake but they are much more expensive, and i already have toyota calipers i am planning on useing.

Search... blah... blah.  Yeah, I know the search feature here is pretty much broken, so here's a couple of links:

I guess what i am asking is who makes them and how good they are.  i found one that is much cheaper than all pro's kit and the other one is more and i dont know how it works at all, but if i go cheap am i getting cheap stuff?

How's this compared to a line lock?

It's definitely a simpler install, plus you get to use your stock ebrake handle.  No lines to run, no worries about leaking.  Also locks all 4 wheels if in 4wd.

I would go with either all pro or Sky. They are both reputable companies. all pro also has a kit with a t case skid/crossmember combo.

Thanks everyone.  Now what about replacement parts?  I doubt you would ware the rotor or pads out enough to have to replace them very often unless you ride the e-brake, or dive with it on.

I have seen the disc e-brake but I though you had to use their fancy cross member.  I haven'e seen the one that just mount to the back of the t case. I like that much more.  I was thinking I was going to have to fabricate some sort of mount for it off of my own cross member.

Mine is not a good example, my linkage goes driver.

I'll re-line them, just get me your old ones.

It mounts, to your T-case.

you can get the one with the skid plate but i didnt.   It bolts to your tcase with simple hand tools.

Can somebody measure the diameter of the rotor on the all pro?  I want to make sure it will fit in my custom transmission tunnel.

I have had an A-P brake for quite a while, when I first put it on it worked OK. Not great but not bad. This last year when I had my T-cases out I took the disc and chucked it into my lathe and took a few thousands off each side to remove the mill scale off the disc. It works ten times better now.

I did the same thing, it looked like they didn't even de-burr it.  I also turned the edge round, cause a monkey ran the burn table at all-pro, or their supplier.  Mine is older, and must have been done with plasma, I hope they have upgraded to Jet or Laser.
