are you going to put a winch in the bed so you can winch up a vehicle?

also, do you htink it could tow our durango? i would definitely pay for gas --- we may need to move it from fremont to pleasant hill
Depends on the wheel base.  Im pretty sure it will fit.
When do u arrive back here ?  Its getting pretty close to the roundup.
Should have everything finished on toyota and close to everything on the Ford.
Main thing im dealing with is money,  Not sure if I am gonna be able to afford the gas money for the ford.  My best guess is gonna be 100 + in fuel.  Im gonna do the math so I can be sure I have the funds.

I got the drive line e brake in and it looked great.  Went to clean it up a little and noticed that its exactly the same cept the speedo censor hole wasnt there.  So its pretty much worthless to me.
So I decided to try and fix mine.  It was rusted really bad and the lever that activates the break was locked up.
After a bunch of cleaning and lubing I got it to work.  The shoes were pretty bad but I figured it was just an e brake so I just cleaned them up some.
Finished cleaning it all up with a wire wheel then pressure washed it.   I drained all the oil out of it and put in bout a half a quart of atf.  Bearings inside seemed tight so hopefully the new atf will keep them alive for a long time.
Painted it flat black and threw it back in.  Greased all the drive shaft zerks and gave it a test.  Worked REALLY well.  When its engaged I cant get the truck to move even when giving it some throttle.  So I am very pleased.

Next thing I need to do is install a steering stabilizer.  When I am on the freeway the steering wheel is pretty loose.
Ive also used a slide hammer to pull a bunch of the dents on the roof.  Now I just need to bondo it, primer and install the top running lights with some sort of sealant.
When I get time I am gonna DA sand the rest of the truck and fix a few small dents.  Then its time to paint it white.  Should look great.

Finished up a few little things today.  Got too hot to work so I bailed into my air conditioned trailer.

A few weeks ago I cut slits so the ramps would stay in place.  It worked out really well.

I had the front filler out the side and it just wasnt right since I couldnt get the fuel nozzle to stop kicking.  So today I decided to make it fill from the top.  Should work out better.
Still need to do the rear tank.

Wire wheeled one of the rear duely wheels and painted it.  Much cleaner then gray rusted rims.  Still have to do 3 more.

My toy is pretty much done.  I just need to fix the front drive shaft and fill her up with gas.  Then load her onto the ford.

Jim ill get some pics.  I need to finish fixing the roof and painting it.
I do have a lot more work to do on it.   Thankfully my toy is done so I have plenty of time.  Just no money.  Im worried I may not have enough to pay for fuel for both rigs.

I took the inspection plate off the ford and checked to see if I could see if the flexplate was cracked.  I could barely make out a crack so I pulled the trans and flexplate.  It is cracked all the way around.
It explains the starter sticking once and a while and the seriously bad noise I was getting.   I think there is one at a wrecking yard near me that I can get.   Just dont want to put a used one in and have it break again down the road.   Ill see what happens.   Just need to get it back on the road.
I have debated welding it and reinforcing it somehow.  Just not sure if it would last.

When I get the trans back in I am gonna test to see what injector/s are bad.  A leaky injector would explain the very poor fuel millage.  I ended up getting less then 10 mpg which is WAY low.  I should be around 14-15 mpg.

I also checked my speedometer and its off 7 mpg.  I checked the gear and its fine so I googled what tire size belongs on this truck.  Turns out its suppose to have 19.5 tires instead of the 16" tires on it now.
The main issue I have with the smaller tires is at freeway speed the engine turns 2700-2800 rpm to do 70 mph.  Its causing the engine to run hot.  Plus im thinking its partly why a lost an injector.  They were fine before the trip to the con.  I could stick to the 16" tires but I would really need to change the gears.  Really dont want to put gears in a dana 80.   Sucks because my tires are like brand new tread wise.  Maybe I can find someone who will trade their 19.5s for my 16s.    Well see how it goes.  1st things 1st I need to get the trans back in.

just an FYI my 93 turbo IDI with 4.10s EMPTY gets 16-17, and loaded with the trailer, crawler, and everything for a week in Moab (my trailer is 2k lbs, and my 92 extra cab weighs in more than your truck) it gets 11-13 (only if I round up to make my self feel better ) So I think 14-15 may be pushing it depending on your gears.

What gears do you have?

PZ
92 xtra cab, with some stuff...

...why buy when you can build?

Ive hauled 2 other rigs on the back of this truck before this trip and got around 14 mpg with them.  One was bout the same weight as my rig.
Ill get injectors fixed and see what happens.  The main reason I think that its not getting good enough mpg is the smoke under deceleration.  Tells me I have a leaking injector which can eat up fuel.

Done a little bit of work on it but nothing really that great.  Its been running great besides its getting colder and I dont have the funds to buy a new glow plug relay,  so its a little hard to start in the morning.
Soon I am gonna finish up the body work and get it painted before the rain comes.

Not really......Just been doing little stuff.  I did replace the tracking bar bushing to help it handle better on the freeway.   Still need to replace the front leaf spring bushing and get a new rear window before the rain comes.

A few updates on the ford.......Ive had to chase electrical demons lately.  The wiring is old and very corroded.  Some wires even eroded away.
Pretty much have fixed all of it including the glow plugs.  I ended up making my glow plug controller manual.  So I push and hold a button to turn glow plugs on.
It works great plus if engine is warn and I dont need the glow plugs they dont turn on and prematurely burn them out.

I still need to reduce the amount of tilt on the dove tail so I can load cars without having them drag when loading them.
I think I might make ramp holders today.  Plan on storing them under the bed and being able to lock them in place.
Ill post pics of it when im done.

Hey Jim I do plan on getting a winch for the front of it.  Just dont have the funds for one right now.  I want a hydraulic winch so it will run off the same pump that tilts my bed.
If I need to load my toyota I can always use the winch on it to load it.
Lots of plans for this truck just not enough dough to make it happen.
