2wd oil pan conversion
« on: Nov 12, 2010, 05:29:33 PM »
Does any one know if when swapping a 1985 22RE 4x4 oil pan to a 2wd oil pan if you have to modify the oil sump and pick up tubes as well?

When I did it on my 3.0 I changed the pan, oil pickup and windage tray.

I copy that, I think I need to do this swap because the new rear high steer that I put on my rig gets real close to my oil pan and I don't want it to hit it.

yo have to modify the 2wd oil pan to clear the axle or the diff will hit it and becomes a whole new problem

I did not have to do any mods to the 2wd pan I put on mine, but it is a 3.0.

Does the 2wd oil pan mount opposite from the 4wd one?  Because from the pictures it looks like it's thev same rear mount just a little smaller.  If it were front mount I could see where clearance would be an issue from the axle.

it mounts the same as the 4wd but the drain plug hangs over the front diff rather than being angled to clear it and the pick up tube for the 2wd is right over where the axle is rather than at the rear like the 4wd so if the axle is in the stock position (aka no lifted or moved forward ) it will be a problem unless some one can prove otherwise

I'm allready lifted with the Marlin 5" would that be enough clearance foreward and up to clear the 2wd oil pan?

Id say is good as long as our bump stops keep the axle out of the oil pan
