aw, the carb ain't THAT bad :eyebrow:

dunno who's selling guts right now, but all you need to do is swap intakes and do the wiring, and then either get an inline fuel pump and high pressure lines, or install an EFI tank

Might want to check in the parts for sale section, or post a topic in the parts wanted

Good luck!

Is there a safe way to test the intank pump?  Sure would save some work if I could test it before I put it in.

just put 12v to the pump while its outta the tank.  if it spins, you're good.  Mine was shot, so I've got at Turbo Supra fuel pump on my EFI converted 84...

If your on a tight budget I would suggest leaving the EFI swap for later...just get a good carb, like a holley or something...I heard some carbs are very advanced now so it wont choce at a small angle no more's  :D

So you're able to use your stock 84 fuel tank with your EFI conversion? I was told I needed to change my tank. I have the Holley 390 with the offenhousin adapter and I want EFI aswell.

later model fords use an external pump that is way cheap and everywhere in the wrecking yards too.  Yota runs at 38 psi and the ford pump is 39 so its a very good match.  I think the pump is from any efi ford from the mid 80's to the early 90's.  And yes it allows you to use the stock tank.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

One more question, does the Ford pump rely on the Yota pump for suction pressure. Sorry if I seem ignorant on the subject, but I am.

No, I had to swap in an EFI tank with the in tank fuel pump bracket.  The tank had been sitting a while and the fuel got all nasty and stopped up the stock fuel pump.  I happened to have my stock Supra pump lying around from upgrades to that car, and it fit right in.  From what I can tell by looking at the in tank pumps I've replaced on cars at work, most Toyota in tank fuel pumps are the same in terms of size.  I don't know about pressure or flow characteristics, but a good fuel pressure regulator can make just about any pump work.

White Trash's suggestion for the Ford pump is a good one, just mount it close to the tank.  Electric pumps in general are designed to push rather than to pull fuel.  Also, I was able to use my stock fuel lines on my pickup with the EFI setup.  I just cut off the ends of the rubber hose from the tank to the hard line and from the hard line to the fuel filter and hose-clamped them to my existing carb'ed truck supply line.  Works great, and I didn't have to mess with changing the formed hard line, which is a real pain in the ass if you don't have a body lift...

HTH,

reklund5 is right, elect. pumps push best, not pull. so they go in the back by the tank. the stock yota carb. pump is not used at all.  :beerchug:

If I swapped in the efi tank and the pump eventually went out, could I still put one in line to get it going again?

yes, but you'd be better off removing the tank pump frist. so in that case you'd just mite as well replace it
