Broken engine mount?
« on: Oct 20, 2010, 08:46:09 PM »
So the trip before last, I started hearing and feeling a Loud knock coming from the front end whenever I first give it the gas and the truck jumps a little. It's a one time knock, that sounds something I imagine the frame banging against something might sound like. Anyway, a guy that rode with me the last trip said it sounds like I got a broken engine mount. Is there anyway of knowing by looking at it, cuz I glimpsed at it before I left the trail and it looked fine, but it also looks like a break could be hidden. It's an 83 yota with a 22re. I'm currently in the field(army) for a couple weeks and will probably end up taking the right mount, which is where the sound is coming from, off when I get back. Any advice would be awesome. Thanks

Cut off three links of heavy chain.... Weld one to the mount the other to the frame....   With duals lower gears and big tires it will happen over and over. I have been running mine that way for 3 years. Ill try abd find pics of the way i did it.

put it in 1st gear low, hold the brakes and let off the clutch. if it the mm the engine should raise up. try it in reverse too

Steve, it really noticeable in low-low, so I'm really leaning towards the mm. I'll just pull them as soon as I get back from the field. I'll reply when I find out

You could use a floor jack and a block of wood to jack your motor up and if you see the mount split - it's the motor mount.
