Okay, so I got the detroit for 200 bucks, been doing some homework on getting this 4 cylinder detroit into this v6 housing or put my v6 gears with different inner pinion bearing into 4 cylinder housing with detroit so I don't have to worry about sleeves.  Havn't went to local machine shop yet.  Cost effective will decide.  While the front is out I have decided it would just be retarded if I didn't get some new birfs for the front at least. since not as easy to swap later like the rear.  Has anyone ran more than one brand and found one to be better?  I don't want to pay money for a cool sticker in the box.

that makes the front birfs easier to get out?  I still have my IFS hubs at thomas's house.  would you be more specific please, I am lost at how that would make putting a detroit locker into the third member easier.

Dingman.

Get 30 spline longfields if you dont want to worry about breaking them.

That is what i run, thomas runs, tonya runs and many many others.
Or just rock the stock birfs till they break.

You can break any birfs you put in there but 30spline longs are the strongest

P-DiseToy24

Dont even bother to go wheeling unless you have the longs... cross that you CANT wheel unless you have them, or the dirty 30s haha

Birfs are too weak. I've broken and seen them broken on tires as small as 265/12.50 which is like a 28 inch tire. You cant actually WHEEL with stock birfs you can drive around hit logging roads maybe flex it out and get away with some very very light crawling, but to really wheel a rig on stock toyota birfs isnt really wheeling... just my :twocents:

I would buy longs before case's your just going to put the duals in and break your shafts making the duals totally pointless. With longs you could romp on that thing as hard as you wanted and everything will fall apart around them.. there pretty bullet proof in my mind

So Longs is the brand? Longfield? Would going to the 30 spline half shafts mean I would need to change anything in my knuckles?

Sparkplug

I run 36 iroks, locked in front, in my 88 sased runner, stock birfs and inners, and Im not the lightest driver, My front mini axle is built almost all they way other than longs, and 25 mm pin, but still, my birfs have not failed yet.

Longfields are the brand name, they are the best, cant be beat. If you break one, they replace it, and you get to be proud.

yeah with both cases,

Then I'd say it's a decent deal, figure 100 for each case and 200 for adapter.

P-DiseToy24

I have a tg rear 23 spline adapter enough parts for a dual and posibly a hole extra case with a tg 4.7 gear I'll sell you for 6 Bills?

Maybe after tax season if I decide to continue my build.  All depends on how much i decide to spend on a car.

NITE KRAWLERS

I would go wit the 30 spline all the way man. Shafts and birfs dude. I got he 27 spline birf only and have been rock n it hard and finally broke a stoke inner shaft clean off right at the birf. So it broke the next weak link in line. I think if you had the longs 27 spline birfs and shafts you would be fine unless your following buggys around.. I was impressed i broke a inners stock shaft cause i have been wheeling wit 37" tires for bout 4 years now and only broke a million stock birfs till i got the longs and now the inner shaft went. Wat i am sayin is get inner shafts along wit the birf longs. Also i would get after market hub gears cause that will go next and stuff will be stripped out and i think longfeild will not warranty them if the splines are stripped out. 100% warranty though if you break one. Also nice build and keep up the good work and here is a pic of my stock inner shaft that snapped clean off!!! CLEAN OFF !!!
Sometimes life is a rock an we need a Yota to get over it an Chevy is like a rock so I'm over it!!!

So now that I have a welded V6 4:88 third, a detroit 4 cyl locker and of course my stock 4 cylinder in my truck I need to ask one more question.  Are the V6 gears really that much stronger or should I just my a set of yukon 4:88 and try to get my money back by selling the welded?  Was nice that more than one person said I could fab the detroit into the V6, it will not happen, heard of ARB conversion bearing but nothing found.

It was thomas P and Dingman that did all the welding and stuff, I helped with drive line for front and a little other stuff one night, I work too much to have time like that,   We used stock rear mains in place of all pro main in the 5 in kit and F-150 from 93 extra cab in rear with 1 in blocks. Stock shackle to shackle, some day soon put some home made one peice ones on there.

problem solved, simple conversion bearing made by timken that is readily available at most parts stores.  maybe 50 bucks for both sides.

For the differentials?
that is what the guy at ARB told me, gave me part number and everything, another guy from  a place that sells diffs says the ARB person is wrong and it won't work so I sent another email being very specific about what I have and want to do, still waiting for response.  And I was at one of your neighbors working the other morning, you were gone when I was done though.

Dingman.

I didnt even see your work truck.  Lol

Hows the truck treating you?

silence007

I was actually down the little court about a 1/4 mile past your place, I still consider that your neighbor.  The truck is cool.  I have noticed the front shackle is rubbing the frame during compression.  Do you know anyone with an igniter for 22re?  I am hopefully going to get my diffs ready soon, suddenly it gets better gas milage, wierd because winter blend is worse time of year for fuel.Got my job back working on cars, will be done with dish on christmas eve.

Dingman.

I can keep my eye out for an igniter for you.   I dont think thomas has any laying around.  Ill have to check around

silence007

Do you know if the 22r has the same igniter or sending unit as my truck, picking up my second case when coming back from fresno on fri.
