then go to AAA and ask If Im not mistaken if your uncle owned it, then all you have to do is transfer title, NO SMOG REQUIRED IN TITLE TRANSFER ...check with AAA or DMV and ask them, would save you some money in smog and stuff

Gifted titled transfers that do not require smogs are limited to direct family relations only. I.E.- Parent to child, child to parent (includes step relations), Siblings (including Step relations. (not to include uncles, aunts, cousins, grandparents and such)  :yesnod:

I have said that a person was a sibling to skirt this policy (read as loophole and yes, even with different last names) since they will not verify actual relations as stated. It goes through every time! They must be wondering just how many siblings I have seeing as I've done this many times.  :talkingn:

Go to a different DMV with a Bill of Sale listing all the vehicle info (Lic. Plate No., VIN....) stating that... "I (legal owner's name), am gifting my (year, make and model) (license No., Vin) to my brother (your full name)".  Along with a date and both your signatures on said Bill of Sale and all the properly signed Pink Slip paperwork and you should be good to go. This is the method I've employed many times. This will work as long as the vehicle is still currently registered and not already currently requiring a smog for registration renewal. It never fails. You kinda have to have a good poker face too. So you have to go in there like you own the place and the whole story is legit. It helps me to consider all the :pokinit: they've done and do, so I look at this as just some small degree of retribution for their antics and a good edge for us. :gap:  I'd go in there with ya if you were closer just so you could see that this does really work! :) You have to try it! It will open up so many options for future vehicle purchases! 8)

^That's how I bought my truck, with just a bill of sale. I think the guy said I paid like $100 bucks for it too, so I saved on taxes and :pokinit:. I'd say try it.

Only difference is he has to state that's it's a gift from a sibling so he can avoid having to smog the vehicle. The only exception is if the vehicle is already requiring a smog for registration renewal.  Other than that, it should go smoothly with no trouble at all.  :beerchug:

Well yesterday I told them I checked the wrong box ,
The DMV was packed ! They were. Not as helpfully as before
I'm heading to Santa Cruz , early next week.
I do have a few temp day slips but ,
To get a month moving permit , you have to get a fail smog  !
I am not going to do that !!

Yeah, you definitely don't want a "Failed" smog on there. That will show up on their computer while you're there and might appear suspicious.   It would certainly look less suspicious doing this transfer if....1) it hasn't failed smog  2)  it isn't already due for renewal.

Those Month long moving passes also cost $50 now. They used to be free! But you still had to have a "failed" smog.  :maddest:

Do you live in/Is the truck registered in Santa Cruz County? I might wonder if they'll get funny over it, if neither. I know you typically have to get your Smog done in the same county that the vehicle is registered in since it is the seller's responsibility by law to smog before selling. Not sure if they'll give you any lip for that otherwise.

But the hot wire , I dont want just ran over the fender into the cab ect......

So the motor isn't turning all the way , I pulled the head to find about 1 1/2 cups of water in the rear cylinder ! So I'm going to try to hone it out , there's like 60,000 miles on this oem motor so I'll give it a try ! Any feed back would be great !!

60K on oem 22r? wow

if the rest of the cylinders and piston heads look good id replace little things like the water and oil pump and timing chain and gaskets just to be safe and do a compression check and if it holds good then set the valve clearance and run it..
