The rumors are true, I laid my motorcycle down last Wed.

I believe you need a 1998 for that. If I remember right starting in 1999 the bike makers had a agreement to limit all bikes to 189.
Dr.Maxwe001 – well i have a 15 gal compressor now and if I gett he 60  and then use the 15 as a reserve that wil give me 75 gal  thats close to 80 isnt it ?

There truly are 2 types of riders:  those who've been down and those who'll go down.  Congrats, you've joined the former  ;)

The tire pressure is a little perplexing, does seem very high  :headscratch:  Are you sure the gauge is working right?  Could be tires then, or you coulda done something you don't remember doing.  You may not remember since your world was so quickly turned upside down.

And for sure do the physical therapy, or whatever is recommended.  I can vouche for the limited ankle movement after mine was jacked up, though mine had a strange side effect.  It won't bend down as far as the uninjured ankle will, but will bend up further than the other so  :dunno:

You're a BARF member, right?  Post in "crash analysis" and see what people come up with, but I'd be willing to bet it's chalked up to either cold tires or simple mistake.  Everybody's done it at some point, we just don't all end up on the ground when it happens.  I've hit flattened soda cans mid corner in an intersection, had the front and rear swap violently and still ridden it out, tried powersliding through a corner on a cold night on cold tires and ended up vertical over the bike looking down at the headlight, somehow rode it out and slid through the next corner  :_oops:  :pokinit: happens, it just doesn't always go bad  ;)

Today marks one week since the mishap. So far I can put about 25% of my weight on the ankle and can walk on it if I don't bend the ankle at all and move my right foot into position very quickly minimizing the time on the bad ankle. So a seriously goofy walk. Hopping around on the right leg is still the preferred method of mobility by far right now. Don't worry though, I am taking it very easy for a proper recovery, I just test it out from time to time to monitor progress.

Mike, you shoulda seen me test the waters walking after my first crash.  Jacked ankle and broken leg, no meat on my leg, I'd hobble cautiously from the shop across the parking lot to the store.  I may have tried too early and made things worse, but I was so tired of not having any muscle on my left leg, and it came back so quickly once I started using it just a little!

I did find out the hard way about the jacked ankle not moving properly early one morning.  I got out of my truck at the base of a steep walking trail just before light one morning, deer rifle in hand.  Did some stretching, aimed toward the hill and... wait, what's that?  My right ankle bends up to conform to the steep hill but my left won't  :headscratch:  Never had to cut back and forth so much to get up a hill in my life!

Just had a friend of mine lay her bike down in my driveway last weekend.  She was trying to avoid the puddles and tried to cross over the center strip that was muddy.  Luckily she wasn't going very fast.  Got her up, and within 10 minutes she was off down the road.  I was fearing the worst.

Glen that crazy lady needs to post up a little more.  I miss her.  :rivers:

Dang..

Update on this, I was on crutches for 2-1/2 weeks. Then for another week I could walk around if I wore shoes. Then I could walk around barefoot or in sandals and wouldn't hurt. And now I can sort-of jog slowly but its still painful so I'm not doing this yet.

The biggest problem I have right now is with rotation of the foot. For instance, you know when you are walking towards a door that is closing, and let's say your hands are full, so you quickly catch the door with your left foot right before it shuts, and then you rotate your left foot against the door to swing it back open? Ok, I did this a couple days ago out of habit, and wooweewawaaowi that hurt BAD! Extreme sharp pain up even towards the inside of my knee, and not its swelled back up just a bit.

I am trying my best to go easy on the ankle but this was just something I did out of habit. I am not running, not jogging, trying to take it easy.

It has been 1 month of recovery and progress was extremely fast at the beginning, but recently it feels like it will be 3 or 4 days before I notice its getting stronger. My friend who works at a hospital told me that badly sprained ankles often take longer to heal than broken ankles. Wow, that's crazy!

this just in, Lady DI wrecked her sportster last thursday, same injuries as Mike :ack:
I didn't WRECK the bike, it was a bit damaged but not too bad. Lost the turn signals and mirror on the left side and a slight dent on the tank. It's getting repaired as we speak.
Mike, my injuries are almost identical to yours! I didn't read through this whole thread but I have a fractured ankle, my knee is all blown up, I have a slight fracture under my eye and gouged the inside of my lower lip. That and my knee bug me the most.
As to how the accident happened...apparently the bike doesn't respond well to stoopid! I was coming into a turn, some arse wipe was on my ass and I was paying more attention to him than I was the turn, by the time I realized I was going too wide it was too late.
I locked up the brakes, skidded past a gravel drive, a stand of trees, another gravel drive and ended sliding off the road into a dirt embankment.
I was truely really fortunate as to where I landed and give major thanks to the good Lord for watching my back. It was really soft dirt, I know that cause I had a mouthfull of it! It could have been so much worse!!
Nothing really hurt much that night, my ankle felt like it was a bit twisted and my mouth hurt but that was about it. I rode the bike home that night.
Oh, I was with a friend too, the dirtbag that was tailgating me had pulled over and called 911. Mario asked what happened, he said he didn't know. He was on the phone with his wife, looked down for a minute and next thing he knew I was gone. And then he promptly left.
Another good samaritan pulled over and helped Mario get the bike out of there and back on the road. He's a tow truck driver, they had to put a chain on it to get it out of the ditch. He went so far as to take his shirt off and put it around the bike so it wouldn't damage it!!
So I am healing and I will be back at it. I know exactly what I did wrong and that will not happen again.

Oh, and I was doing about 45 when I was going into the turn (left hand turn). I don't know what I was doing when I laid it down, but much slower than that I'm sure. All I remember is locking up the brakes and landing.
Mario went back the next day to get other pieces and parts (including his clamp on windshield that he had lent me, and will be covered by insurance as well), he described what he saw as per my skid marks.

I was not looking where I was going. OK so I'd only been riding for a week so at least I have an excuse, but still... I still feel like a moe ron!

Diane that's a common mistake, when you got somebody on your ass.  Cause, you don't know what they are gonna do.  I had alot of buddies go down for various reasons, and I always ask them how it happened.  I tried to learn from their accidents.  I always assume that the person in the vehicle can't/doesn't see you.  If somebody was riding my ass, I just pulled over instead of dealing with the assholes.  I like to focus on the road, and when a idiot is taking your focus away, you tend to get careless.  We all have done this.

Glad your alright Diane, bikes are replaceable, people that we care about are not!!  We love and miss you.

I wave them back if they're tailgating, and usually it works.  Had a nissan tailgating me a couple years back and repeatedly tried waving them back, then finally brake checked him (accidentally locked up the rear at 70 :_oops: ) and he pooped a brick, swerved into the other lane and stared me down while I gave him a 1 finger salute.  I never flip off people when driving, but for some reason people treat you like you're expendable when you're on a bike.
