They don't race in the rain because they don't have a rain tire. Actually they have run one in the rain once that I know of in Montreal, Canada.

Well...let me see if I can say this through my teeth clenched in rage! They don't have a RAINFREAKINGTIRE???? They have no balls...not a good set to be had between all the "drivers". THE most popular motorsport in this country and no one can come up with a tire for the edge of wetness? The effing "sport" (pro-wrestling with a lap counter) is so boring...if they had to slow down for the rain...half the nation would fall off the couches in a beer induced coma! Puhleeze!

So NASCAR is like 43 pro wrestlers holding hands in the dome of death running in a circle until someone squirts water at them and they all fall down?

Seriously though, most people watch a race, just the cars on the track. I sir watch the the details and yes there are some that can make or break a team. Oh maybe you forgot there is a team involved, it's not just a driver but a team that can out think the other teams, bet you never realized that what they do in the pits is not just a knee-jerk hick reaction when the car shows up at the pump. There is timing, planning and calculations involved that the average person doesn't see or get. Sure the end result is we get to be bored watch some guy or now a girl drive in a big circle but it is better than watching baseball where if a player hits a ball with a stick and then gets to run in a circle, or basketball where they constantly run from one end to the other and tag up for points or a bunch of football players push each other back and forth with a ball that's not even round. All this sports crap is boring if you break it down to its core.

Ok...so there is a team. A team dedicated to a mind numbingly dull sport...why would anyone "race" to be mediocre? Nascar has some craftsmen...the car and engine builders (ok the pit workers too). But it must be depressing to have the fastest cinder block in town.

NASCAR is the racing equivalent...of a splittin' maul...F1 is a laser scalpel.

For craps' sake...girls play soccer in the rain. It's just so boring, 725 laps of ill handling cars turning left...it's like watching the parking lot at the mall on the Saturday a new Potter movie is released...people driving in circles looking for a spot near the food court. When they raced on road courses, it was like a watching a fat chick wearing spandex ride a pair of roller blades (crap, just flopping everywhere).

I don't really watch racing anymore...but, it would be bikes, then F1.

Everyone of those guys could out drive me, to be sure. It's nothing compared to the skill and precision it takes to have a bike or car set up to compete on a road course...hundreds of shifts, going from full honk to a dead stop several times.

For what it's worth...I don't like any circle track racing, other than what I've seen on a local out-of-wallet level (kind of like what nascar used to be).

A lot of people like it...that's fine. But, they don't race in the rain because their tampon string would soak up the water. If Goodyear can make a tire for a 747...a tire can be made for racing Mom's station wagon.

I'm from the South...I've been to a few races...from the old Nashville track to Atlanta and Charlotte, it's what we do. We get to eat grits, drink sweet tea and we have to watch nascar.

Oh and Conway Twitty sucks too!

Well said AT, well said!  Every other motor sport has rain tires, no reason they couldn't too.

And Stocker, the track day was a blast and went incredibly well.  I got stuck running with a couple guys (I dubbed them the black knights cause they were both black from head to toe, tire to windscreen, and would come out of nowhere to pass me) who were slower than me from turn 1 to turn 8, but had more power for the faster sections.  Finally made my way past 1 and aimed at passing the other on the outside of turn 3, an off-camber right hander, but held off cause I would be too close to taking his line into 4.  Got the flag for the last lap and wanted to run my pace, so I gave it a little more and made a clean pass on the outside in 3, then put it to the wood for the remaineder of the lap cause I did NOT want either of them passing me, which ended up with me running the fastest lap of the whole day.  Sure wish I'd caught that fire sooner!  He rolled up next to me in the pits and motioned he wanted to say something, turned off his bike and said "great pass on the outside, bro"  :haha:

None of the pics look like I'm going fast.  I'll try to dig up his page and post the link, just can't copy/paste the images without paying, and I'm not paying for the angles he shoots or for him to snap the pics when you're not fully laid over.  I drug my kickstand and maybe shifter again, and hit my toe on my right foot, but in the pics it looks like I'm poking along so  :dunno:
