Hey guys, I am having some serious issues with exhaust coming in my 4runner since I took the top off :tantrum:.  I have replaced all the exhaust gaskets, and I know there are no leaks anywhere because I welded up the whole exhaust system before installing it under the rig. The tailpipe goes all the way to the back of the rig and exits straight out under the rear-most crossmember.  Do you guys have issues with exhaust smells and such when you take the top off? If so how did you fix the problem (if you did)  or is it just a 1st gen 4runner thing that I have to deal with? :headscratch:   Any info from you dudes would be great!

Exhaust must exit out the side, not pointing straight back.

yeah. worked at an exhaust shop and we legaly couldnt run it strait out the back if the truck had a sliding window cuz the exhaust gets sucked back into the cab with the window open. Theres been reported cases of people dieing due to this.

ha ha, well I didnt die before fixing the problem!  I cut about ten inches off my tailpipe and welded on a 45 degree bend so now it goes out the side.  So far it seems like it solved the problem!  Its amazing how much of a difference it makes.  thanks guys

I usually dump it out just in front of the rear tires.

i would smash mine if i put it in front of the rear tires.  It has to go behind the rear tire

My DD 4runner has the same issue.  It really needs to go just a little past the body.

I had the same problem. I cut my exhaust off at the rear axle and welded a 45 deg on so that it dumped strait down. Problem solved.
