Hey guys... time to add another toy owner to the group.  I just got back from a little trip south of LA two days ago with a '88 4runner. Its all stock (aftermarket stereo and exhaust) 22RE, 5 Speed, EFI.
It needs a little work (has cooling problem over 60mph, paint, minor electrical for rear window, gas gage reads empty after 3/4 tank and below) but it runs, insured, registered, and mine....now to learn how to drive a stick..lol (grew up "spoiled", no manual in the family for 15+ years....I'm 20)

jrock

Sweet! Welcome aboard :)

not sure...it'll prob be a few years. I'll still be going to college and I'll need to get funds... right now I'm going to be content with it stock and fix her up nice before any mods...maybe put a lift on it (have a 3" body lift if i want to put that on) and some black rims (SR5 on it now) and 33" tires when these 31"s wear out. i also want to build a marlin style winch bumper and might need to build a spare tire rack so that my trunk space isn't taken up by the spare.

ae racer

here is my current DD 06 GMC Sierra which will eventually be getting a 3" front and 2" rear suspention lift, 17x10.50x33 tires, and fiberglass fenders.

and the new project/ soon to be DD/weekend warrior

hey guys, at the junk yards and such, have any of you seen many first gen 4runners? if so, which yards should i go to? And i know they are "well picked over" but what generally is left?

jrock

I've only been to Pick your Part off S. Union and it had crap. The Primo section had two coilded 4runners but that side it double cost. I lucked out going on a half off day.

Gixxer Jon

well i know that superyota, Jrock and I have had our fair share of getting parts from the junk yards but we havnt been to all of them just cause the fact that some of them want an arm and a leg for the littlest parts

ae racer

so which ones are the best to go to that dont want an arm and a leg?

Aaronm

I have had some success at the pick your part on south union, the one with the octupus. I have found complete solid axles, t-cases, other junk. I have had to walk away from at least two toys with complete solid axles because I didn't have the time to pull them. If you need some things post up a list and I will keep an eye out for it. Also watch the domestic side. I usually find complete toys on that side because no one looks at that side.
What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point, in your rambling incoherent response, were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

ae racer

what do you mean by domestic side? of the parts yard? ive never been to a yard so i dont know too much.

Gixxer Jon

yes hes talking about the junk yard. they seperate the vehicles by imports and domestic (USA) vehicles..
and you will mostly find atleast 1 4runner in the domestic side.

I had a lot of fun last night.  We need to plan for the full run next and run the trails out in the desert in addition to freeway ridge.  It'll probably be another night trip so we can stay cool.  Speaking of staying cool, i need a new fan clutch.

hey guys, quick but prob pretty dumb question... did the trucks with a 22r ever have the option for EFI? because i was thinking that it stood for Electric Fuel Injection which the 22RE had to have..correct or am i way off?  The reason that i ask is because i was told that my truck was a 22re but it says 22r but has EFI..please set me straight.
