2nd gen sound deadening?
« on: Dec 30, 2009, 09:23:58 PM »
:dunno: As everyone knows the older p/u's where noise boxes. rattles hear rattles there and a lot of motor noise in the cab. Any ideas on sound deadening. I was thinking of a few coats of roll on liquid sound deadener followed by coats of herculiner on the floor and roof.As far as the doors i dont know. maybe a coat of sound deading with just some simple house insulation stuffed behind the door panels. And im sure new door and window seals would help. what do you guys think?   :-\

Carpet pad

There's some thin insulation I got at Lowe's for behind the door panels.   It's aluminum lined bubble wrap

He means carpet pad in the doors, or anywhere there is a large bare metal surface. Cut to fit, then use good spray adhesive to mount it, like 3M 77 adhesive. Or you can go bling and get Dynamat.

I used Dynamat on the entire interior of my Jeep. It helps, doesn't make it quiet by any means. They have off-brand Dynamat that is supposed to do the same thing but is cheaper. One is called Second Skin. I know a lot of guys like that stuff too. Maybe take a look at stuff like that... :twocents:

rattle trap is cheap and better then the dynamat. I used it in my truck with spectrum spray and when i did the carpet i used a thicker backing and jutepadding.

I heard that a sheet of closed cell foam works excellent, like better than Dynamat and way cheaper. I would think better than carpet pad too. It's hard to find though.
