That's my thought. Id like a rig i can wheel and camp with that is good for a mix of trails but i can drive it everyday and not feel like im driving a busted up rock crawler. I want the luxury of a new car/truck that's quiet in side with a clean sounding stereo and enough power to do highway speeds with the a/c on. This rig will be used for camping and mild trails with the gf or friends where the other rig were building will be used for the serious trails and will see more time on a trailer then it will on a highway.

So im going to let the next step out because im going to be finishing up the frame this week no matter what.

I plan on wrapping it all in black leather for a new car feel. I cant stand the brown and the seats i have are black leather. The other reason is they never made the older trucks with a black dash.

I dont have apicture of the seats yet but you get the idea.

The seats are from an 99-04? Acura TL and are power, heated and leather. Some might think its crazy but after the dash mock up im spraying the inside of the truck in SecondSkin sludge and then a layer of Edead to keep it quiet inside. I have also added new door seals and widow seals to keep the wind noise down. The swampers will be used tel they wear out or somone wants them and i can go to a radial tire...something like a 37'' MTR. The swampers are not bad but on the highway before i couldn't use my hands free. With all the noise killing products it might not be that bad this round but i wont know for a while

Updates
Frames painted, forgot the powersteering box mount and the Stabilizer bracket tho....Doing those today.

Trans is painted and ready to be bolted back up to the 3rz. My cousin found a way to bend my hoist so i have to wait for my buddys when i pick up the racecar from his house.

I know im going to catch some crap for it but its base/clear silver and will be super easy to keep clean or find leaks.

Looks kinda jazzy sitting on the stands but im going to add black outputs and when the new gaskets go in the trans im going to pain that divider red

Few more bits...
Gas tank skid

a few brackets, Ebrake, some random thing that goes on the steering and a random bracket that was next to the ebrake so im putting it on...no clue what it does cause nothing hooks to it.

I talked to my buddy who owns the stereo shop by my house and he said hes got a guy who will pull my eq apart and match the lighting to the new stereo and dash lights.

Lexi Took a roadtrip last weekend. She needed to get out and have some fresh air.  She even made a new friend. They have met a few times in the shop but never spent much time together.

Fiona (FJ)and lexi getting home from the trip

Fiona was a beast! I couldn't believe how well she did. I didnt even notice the trailer most of the trip.

While she was at HOW headquarters her steering box was moved forward and bumper holes drilled.

So happy how it turned out. Now to weld it all in place.

Well shes back in the clinic and im honestly tired of the frame so i put off playing with her box for something new.....here she sits.

We played out with the old and in with the new.
Out with the old....

In with the new......

Still need to spot weld it all in but i need weld through primer..

All the brackets i need from the bay as of now have been removed from the tacoma bay. Everything has been removed from lexi's under hood and new parts mocked up in place waiting for the spotwelds.

I started to tackle a project i am really exited about and i think people are looking at me like im crazy...
Taco...out with the ummm.......

I know its just the shell and its held up with a bungie and some tape but it now fits..The supports wont be as bad as i thought...the heater box on the other hand is going to be a PITA!!!!

I will take the camera up today so i dont have to do cell phone pics anymore.

Ok so i spent about 2 hours on the truck today. I got the tacoma 99% gutted and fit a few parts to my truck. I got the wiper motor from the taco in and test fit the headliner. Heres pics of the taco gutted and better pics of the frame for the thread.

a little less blurry then the others.

Pile 1

So i went through parts yesterday and tried to get a few others to fit. I also pulled the padding out from behind the dash to use as a template for the firewall....I was pretty amazed how close some of the stuff is.

pics.
brake master is close

heater core is close too...both come out of the one hole so i will have one to fill

AC was not cut out in my new cab but one of the marks lines up to where the taco lines go...the other is close.

behind the padding.

Im not going to use the carpet from the tacoma but i wondered how close it would be...pretty close

and the rear pannel is close too.

more pics tomorrow.

That box that was on the rear wall of the taco cab is a converter box for trailer lights.

They are from an 03 svt cobra. I think they look nice but the bend in the gas pedal is weird to me.

Thats awesome..  this past year I have had 3 mk2 (2 jettas, 1 golf) and now my daily is a vr6 b3 passat... which will probably end up being sold in the near future to buy the suspension for the new 4Runner :)

... 650 hp.. thats insane in that small car!!!

whats with all the suspension and steering parts saying TG on them?  i heard you can get way better quality parts here
                                          http://www.marlincrawler.com/

Because in this economy its the difference of $500!!! .. and has there been side by side quality testing that I need to look into?
