Took it to Andy's last night and with his help, got the front end out and ready for rebuild. Steering gear box is out, and we just need to trim all the crap off the housing and the frame. I need to figure out how to get that stinking steel sleave out of the rear leaf spring bushing with out hurting the rubber, we tried pressing it ou no luck

Then Andy was gracious enough to cut up a good saw blade, so we could cut the bushing from the inside. But this steel is like, harder then Diamonds, and wont cut. So Any ideas?

So this is the culprit, I'm doing RUF and this is the bushing that goes up front in the hanger, its OD is larger then the standard aftermarket bushing, and its ID is to small, if I could get the sleave out, I would be golden with the new 18mm ft greasable bolts.

This is the tool Andy made, its cuts through anything but, this sleave.

i had to do the same thing with my ruf. if you have a press i would try and grease that little metal sleeve, then get a socket or something that just fits the diameter of the sleeve and put a piece of tube or something on the underside of the bushing to make sure you dont press it out as well. thats how i got mine out

Yea, we gave that a real college try, almost bent the vice handle, with a jack handle for leverage. Good news however, Pirate RUF FAQ page 7 says that the older springs dont have the sleave, so the springs that are in the back of the truck should be okay, we had tried to use a set that Andy had laying around. So back to the shop in a few to check. Thanks for the $.02

yeah thats what happened to me as well i tried using 4runner springs fist which were pretty clapped out, then took the springs out of my 83 and its just regular bushings. good lookin truck keep up the good work your son is lucky

Front Hanger is in, Springs are built and In. Rear end is out and fenders are cut!

These are the new old rears vs. the old fts, the old ones were inverted on the truck. New rears have 3 mains, 1 extra from other set, and 1 beefy bottom spring from a lifted spring pack. I have no idea how tall it will be.

Nuthin to see yet, Im rebuilding and gearing axles this week, at the shop. I think we are skippin Tahoe, so I can get this thing done and rolling this weekend.

Okay, took some time off today to build 2 diffs w/ 529's got to the shop and the install kits didnt show

So I took the dau off for nuthin. Decided to do some of the clean up work that I had planned for Tyler for Saturday, I guess he gets lucky again.

I also got all the gussets in and the upper truss, cleaned off ll the old bracket slagg, and painted the housing. Some welds I am proud of others are well,

They all look worse in the pictures then in real life

I did save the other knuckle for Tyler to do, so he can "appreciate" 30 years of grime.

Made some progress this weekend. Tyler and I went to the shop to assemble the axle, expecting the 3rd to be done, it wasnt they were slammed, so we loaded everything up and went to Royce's to get some help setting it up. Didnt get home til late Sat. So bright and early Sunday we assembled, and eventually hung the sucka!

Here are the patterns, not as good as I would have liked but its a front so we should be okay.

How much backlash did you setup with Dan? Pattern looks "ok" as you said, but it looks a little shallow for my liking...

More....New Ride height!

I didnt even check to see if ft shaft is a CV? I suppose this wont be a problem, with duals and new cross member

Front Shackle angle, I have the front spring hanger "tacked" in place and we put it about 1" further then flush with radiator support, I may be moving it back

We will wait til' the rear is self supported and make sure we know what the true stance is.

6, and that was the issue, to get it any better I would have to take it lower and I didnt want to do that. I sure as hell didnt want to start over for the 4th time and it was getting late, Tyler and I were committed to getting it assembled and hung by Sunday. Its gonna get an ARB later, maybe I can take another stab at it then
