That's a tough question. I like variety. But I might have to say Tellico over the Rubicon by a small margin. I've ridden up and down the 'con twice and thought it was a great ride. It never seems to stop giving you something new to do and the scenery is unbelievable. But it's not really that hard of a trail. Tellico has lots of riding to do just to get to the next good section and some of it can be annoying. But what I like about Tellico is that the hardest spots are truly high challenge. Not all the time but the slightest change in conditions or just being farther down in line for the climb can make a difference in making it up or not. And who knows, you just might be the first truck go cover a trail after the dozer ran through it just to stir things up or after they've blasted something out. The closed loop network is nice too. You can take most any 4by in there and have some fun too. It's pretty limited to what small trucks can do comfortably but it can host most 4 wheel drives.
I liked Marlin's description the best. A perfect diplomatic answer to the question, "What's better, the Rubicon or Tellico?"
"There's nothing on the Rubicon as tough as the hardest challenges in Tellico."

I wish I could say I've run Fordice, Moab or the Hammers, I'd might have a different answer.

If you compare 4dyce to say Moab, Tellico or the Hammers it is very different but when you compare it to the Con it's not so different, different but still simular

What about the Crossings???????????????? If you go at the wrong time you get washed away. If you are half way camping and they decide to let out some water..........Yes they are similar I just hate to see them genralized that way.

You should also add Dusy Ershim and Swamp Lake, local trails outta Fresno and Shaver Lake.

I have had the great fortune to run them all and my favorite is.....   stay away from Fordyce, you won't like it!

Yes, go to Rubicon....   but whatever you do, don't go to Fordyce...   ya, Rubicon for granite... stay away from Fordyce.  You won't make it, you'll get swept away.  Its awful, wouldn't go there.   ;)

My favorite?  Any trail that is still open!

take care...

and stay away from Fordyce, it's just awful.

That's pretty funny mike. Nope, those rocks are rare as far as I've seen. The first time I rode that trail, I thought I was on Mars. Rust colored rocks as far as you can see. They are colored from mineral deposits. It's a cool area. Hundreds of caves surround this place and most are below ground. The river runs underground most of the time until the lake to the north hit a certain level then the water floods the area you see in the picture and makes for potencially ruined trail rides.

A rock crawling playground.

While I realize not a ton of folks have voted on this thread...  it's interesting the Hammers has not received even one vote of confidence.

While I believe its quite possibly the hardest wheeling I have ever done, the camping in the lake bed is not the best (especially when you're used to the Sierras) and the distance from my locale makes for a long journey.

But the Hammers are certainly the most 'In Your Face' wheeling I have done.

Oh, don't go to fordyce, its just awful!   ;)

take care...

My vote would have to go to Dusy. I grew up on that trail and nothing can top it. I passed by the end of the trail (Lake Edison side) on my way to backpack the Bear creek to John Muir to Hilgard Mountain trail that starts at the Bear Diversion Dam. It brought back many memories.
I am so clever that sometimes I don't understand a single word of what I am saying.

I voted for the 'Con.  I almost voted for the Hammers, but the whole camping/wheeling experiance and the history of the 'Con Just nudges it past the Hammers.  Sledge Hammer is the most challenging trail I have done.

Okay, okay... :dunno: What does the color of the rocks have to do with music?

Redneck and others, BTW, no offence, I personally do not enjoy listening to country music, and when ever I call out east (Tenn.), I get put on hold and they are playing country music. Most of the times I can not hold. hahaha

Fordyce is my favorite.   Very tough, gorgeous country,
good fishing and camping.  Only downside is the creek
is not passable in spring and early summer.

Hammers are the toughest (so I've heard), but this poll
is for a FAVORITE, not which is toughest.

Rubicon is too full of trash, drunks, punks, and
wheeler wannabees (on weekends primarily).

Barrett is great, but too short, and limited camping.

Duzy is great (with good camping/fishing), but too long and  90% of trail can be done in 2wd high.

Just my .02 cents worth.
