High Steer arm question
« on: Dec 27, 2009, 08:48:03 AM »
I am wondering what the measurement is on the Marlin arms from the knuckle mounting surface to the tie rod mounting surface as shown in the picture. Anyone know or have a sec to take a measurement?
Thanks.

I have an extra set right here; both sides measure 6in to the mounting surface, the pass side is about 6-1/2 from the outside knuckle bolt holes to the first tie rod hole (this side has two holes, for the steering box tie rod). The drivers side is about 6-5/8.

Are there any out there that are taller? I'd like more separation between my drag link and spring.

Thanks. The site is down now so I'll check back.

Heims are an idea. It is my daily driver though. I'm sure they would be fine. I could probably gain an inch or so which would be perfect.

I run heims and drive it on the street with no issues.  I actually like heims over TRE's.  I was having issues with my TRE's and hydro assist.  Once I moved to heims, all my problems went away.

I was able to space them up to keep them from hitting the top of the leaf springs when fuly compressed.  Another great reason to run them, they tend to be cheaper and easier to find then FJ80 TRE's.  When you're working on the steering, it's much easier to unbolt the heim (3/4" grade 8 bolt looks to be stronger than a TRE as well) then have to use the pickle fork and fight with a TRE.
