I am installing a high steer on my 85 4runner and was wondering if I could mount the bracket for the ifs steering box, then bolt on the box minus the weld.  I would only be driving a couple miles to the local shop to have it welded.  I am assuming this would be safe enough, but just wanted to get some opinions.  Thanks

the mount on top is mainly there for high stress situations(crawling). you should be fine for your journey to your local shop

From what i hear that is a big do not do. assuming of course you get the holes drilled perfect for the sleeves.
I'd like to quit thinking of the present as some minor insignificant preamble to something else~~~~~

I'm gonna go against the safety slugs here, as long as the two bottom bolts are secure and tight, no slop between the box and frame, you should be okay for road driving at slower speeds. I believe that a 2wd box only has two bolts holding the box to the frame...

BTW, if you are getting the top bracket welded in, you should also have them plate it at the same time. They are going to have to take the box off to weld the top bracket into place, so you might as well plate the front and back while it is off.
