Transfer case shifter / twin stick question
« on: Dec 21, 2009, 08:42:47 AM »
Will it hurt anything to go ahead and remove the pin that has to be removed to run the twin sticks while I have the transfer case out, even thought I am not going to install twin sticks now?

I'm going to still use the stock shifter until I can get twin sticks, but it would be easier to remove that pin now while I have the transfer case out instead of taking it out again later when I do get twin sticks...

Anyone know what this pin actually does and why it is in there to begin with? Why does it need to be removed to run the twin stick shifters??

 :headscratch:

it keeps the shift rails from shifting at the same time, so one has to be in one place for the other to get out

yes you can remove it,  be advised it might get slipped out of the fork but it can easily be resolved by removing the shift lever

There's a few old posts about home made twin sticks.

One I was considering was using one stock forward shift lever to shift one rail and shifting the other rail using a stock top shift lever.

I saw this in an old post about interlock pins. You would need one top shift style rail and a forward shift rail to do it.

Seems like a cool idea but I don't know how it would fit and if the levers need to be bent to clear each other or not.

If you find any old posts with actual information in them post up the links
I have a couple extra shifters and both forwrd shift and top shift transfer cases.  I'm going to play around with it this week.

Cheap twin stick for single toyota gear case forward shift.

This was in the Eng/Drivetrain/Susp Mods section. Has good pics and looks like a cool idea. I don't know about floor mods, shift boot placement, if shifters hit each other or the trans shift lever.

If you do it, post your pics and let us know if you like it.

Do a search for "interlock pin" there's more. Search with "twin stick" also.

I can see how a forward shift and a top shift would work. then put twin stick in the rear case!! then you would have 5 levers haha! 1 tranny, and 4 t-case

1997whitefozo, That's a great idea!!!!!

You could call it "Quad Stick", Twin Stick Squared, or "Stick Zilla"

Now I HAVE to do a dual ultimate!
