Front axle rebuild question
« on: Dec 14, 2009, 08:57:26 PM »
I put the disk brake hubs on and torqued them to spec and when you rotate them it requires way too much torque to rotate. Bearings seemed fine when i cleaned them. Any ideas?

I am good up to there. Its after that that seems to be the trouble. When I put the disk on and torque it down it is hard to rotate.

By the book, from the book.  I even borrowed two torque wrenches and bought the spring gauge. I backed the nut off and it remains tight. Could the seal on the back cause that much friction?

just a thought, but when I did mine, we forgot the washer that goes to the caliper bolts, and it would tighten down too tight, and not allow it to spin.

Yes, did you grease the lip on the seal?

maybe your wheel bearings are to tight.

Not there yet but I will keep that in mind Thanks.

I did but I will do it again to be sure.

The instructions say to torque it down then back off the nut. With the nut backed off it is still tight. :dunno:

there is no such thing as too much grease :gap: ik when i put mine together like it didnt turn completly but i drove it around hb a week and it loosened up so the grease may cause some additional drag but if u tighten the bearing down too tight alot of the grease may be sqeezed out
