cooling situation
« on: Dec 05, 2009, 02:47:03 PM »
so my truggy has been running hot since i built it, usually 210-115. so the past few days ive been remounting the radiator built a shroud and put my fan behind the radiator instead of in front. last night i let it idle untill it got to 220 then turned my fan on and it dropped to 207 and stayed. so today i pulled my t-stat out and did the same and the temp would flux between 180-195. so i bought a new t-stat and just tryed it again and its staying at 207 again. i also used a temp gun to see what the temps where at the heater hose and the top of the radiator. with the gauge(wich is a piece of crap cyberdyne and probable isnt right anyway)reading 207 the heater hose and rad. would read about 195. so is 195 the temp my trucks running at and my gauge is a POS?
also is 180% to cool to run my engine at.

oh yea 2rz with 16" eletric fan and v6 radiator

Can you put the sensor of the gauge into boiling water for a calibration test?

Another though, have you considered installing a second fan?  16" should be enough, but you never know, and you can snag one off a celica/mr2 cheap at pnp.

I'd be curious to know what the operating range is for a 2rz.  Newer engines can typically tolerate higher temps since they have better materials that don't expand and contract as much as those of, say a 22r.

i'd drill a 1/8 inch hole in the tstat and see what it does then, this keeps the tstat from over shooting
