Knuckle mount situation...
« on: Sep 15, 2012, 11:31:19 AM »
I am prepping to go out wheeling ina couple weeks. i decided to go thru the front end n put in new bearing, races, seals, etc. All went smooth..took some time when it came to putting the 8 bolts into spindle and thru the large brass w/ black rubbed seal all together but otherwise all looks good. Or so i thought. The entire knuckle n hub looks correct except that the rotor is sittin about 1/2" away from the backing where as it was just slightly covered by it when i started... any idea wut i may have done to cause it?

Dont try to shift into 6th when u've only got a 5spd! Rubberside down doesnt always mean rite side up!

ok..i pulled the hub n rotor all off again. checked the clearance of the bearing..it goes all the way on. pushed n rotated n pushed n rotated..its on as far as its goin. put all back together. torqued. however, the brakes wont line up squarely on the rotor now..i go to put the bolts in n its trying to turn the caliper in towards the rotor. ive checked the bolts n they r straight. would the trunion beaings play any role in alignment during reassambly @ this point? ive only torn these knuckles 2 other times n they didnt seem to give me quite this much trouble...

Trunion bearings are not your issue...which hubs and rotors are you using? Do you have pictures?

I'll bet it's the backing plate hitting.

problem solved. i took it apart 3 times n realized my mistake. i put the spindle on in front of the backing plate instead of behind it against the knuckle face. all back together n rolls sweet. green sticker and a few switches n a winch n its trail time.
