How the hell did your family get into this in the first place? And you are welcome in FL anytime, if you can take the heat. (and no rocks)

My grandmother was raised by an abusive father, and she swore she was gonna do all she could do to keep what happened to her from happening to other kids.  She opened the home in '72, she's retired, and my mom took over, and I'm expected to take over later on.... :ack: I'm at peace with my fate, and I want to keep my grandma's dream alive as long as possible.  BUT I wanna get away for 20 or so years before I resign the rest of my life to that place

That's nice you want to keep your grandmothers dream alive, BUT what about your dreams?

These kids and more like them will just keep comming and comming. You need to have a life of your own and learn what life has to offer before you give in to fate.

You could come here and find something you like to do and go to school at the same time. We have a few good colleges here and the economy is booming.

And did I say that the cost of living is cheaper than your neck of the woods? Plus you can get away with all kinds of stuff here you could only dream about there.

I could personly give you the lack of respect you are looking for.

I coulda sworn I said the same thing a few weeks ago? :headscratch:

You need to take a step back, and look at the sitiation, and decide whether you are doing somethign for yourself, or trying to please others.  I spent a long time trying to please my parents, and was miserable.  I still struggle sometimes, but I finally said screw it, pissed thm off, hurt them a little, but our relationship is better than ever, and they are learning too. Learning that if someone life is chosen by another, it really isnt their life, and they arent really the person that they seem to be.

That's some of the best advice I've heard yet.  I wanna get away.. and as far as my dreams... well those'll have to be in the next 20 or so years after I get away :disturbed: We'll see...

MrW, I agree, the cost of living IS less out there... Cali is CRAZY! I mean, come awn.... 2 million bucks for a 11 acre parcel that's zoned 90% grapes ::)

Ok... I think I'mma shut up now

The question here would be did your grandmother fulfill her dreams, sounds like it. So she would want you to do the same, if your dreams are not the same as hers you should persue them, if you don't your life will be unfulfilled and I don't think your grandmother would have wanted that.

Use the Howard Hughes trick, drop him off 100miles out with 10 bucks and tell him he can come home when it's 10,000

I would relish in this kid attacking me. I WANT him to so we can get RID of him and he can go behind bars. Is that mean?

MrsW, as far as the do-rag... they feel that they have a "right" to it because their hair is too unmanageable and they don't look nice without one, not to mention it's gang related, the kid was in all blue, and he thinks he's just "so sexy" (his words that is) :ack: I'm not saying this pertains to ALL african americans, I've only heard it from my boys. I don't agree either. However, our hands are tied unless he physically harms somebody, himself, or gets completely out of control destroying the house further. That "little incident" was too minor to get him hauled away. However, I WOULD like to press charges... give him a taste of what's in store for him if he keeps it up :eyebrow:

Find out where the "Bloods" area is and drop him off in the middle at 2am

I just got to ask, is the job satisfying? Do you have kids that come to you years later and have made a success of themselves because of what you did for them? Are most of the kids grateful for your help?

We have probably been through 90 teens since I started in 2003.  I think 3 have come back to thank us.  However, over the years, way later on in life, they DO look us up and contact us and let us know how their lives are goin.  I'd say probably as many as 25% of them look us up :dunno:

As for me, it's satisfying about 5% of the time... when I take the boys out to do something and I get a "thank you Justina" or "that was awsome".  I took my boys wheelin last week.  They hate the idea of goin wheelin when I tell em we're gion, but when we get there they have a blast and don't wanna go home.  It's kinda a catch22... oh well :screwy:

You're right.  I do call them "my boys" when they're around and i'm talkin bout them.  Sometimes they don't mind it and sometiems they get upset... but they know there's nothin else i can say... someone's like "who are you bringin" I say "my boys".   Oh well....

Oh yeah, they don't talk to me anymore they give me the silent treatment 90% of the time.  They like my coworker cuz she's soft spoken and says bout 10 words a day :disturbed: Don't get me wrong she's great, but the boys know they can bully her without me around, so they like her better :shakehead:

:yikes: NO they're not my kids... :nonono: I ain't got no kids... not for a long time :nonono:

Anyway, yeah, I work for a group home.  It's a home for abused, underprivileged, and neglected teenage boys.  Lots of them are in trouble, unwanted, or just don't have anywhere else to go.

whiteman, they have a kind of halfway house for wayward "boys" . Her grandmother started it, her mother took it over, and I guess they are looking at FFC to carry on the family "tradition"

She obviously doesn't get a lot of respect and it does not sound at all rewarding.

Girl, I would totally think 20 times about keeping up with this. If the percentage of appreciation were higher I might say go for it, but it is going to make you old too soon. And kids are only going to get worse before they get better.

Hmmm!!!!!   I see your predicament.  That is a hard one.  I say, shut it down put em' on the streets and see how long they last move to the country so you don't have to deal with that crap.
I really dislike kids who have no respect for there elders, but then again it's the parents fault.  The kids just don't get discaplined and turn out to be trouble makers.  Thats a really hard decision.

I flushed a "Boys" dew rag down the toilet at school last year.  Thats where they belong.
