Hey Everyone,

Me and friend are building a truck and this is what we have so far:
We are using a 85 2wd frame from a truck we found that came up from Florida.(NYS winters make it tough to find a good 4wd frame)
We got a set of axles from a 85 Pickup. To mount these we did a SAS with 5" springs all the way around.
We are using a cab from a 94 Pickup.
We are going to be using a chevy 350 with TH350 and transfer case.
Its currently a rolling chassis with the cab on for this winter.

One thing we are trying to figure out though is what to do for lockers on a buget, how dependable are welded diffs.

Any comments or suggestions appreciated.

axled89

they are strong and reliable.  i have the same welded front for five years now.   and a spool for the rear.
:welcome: :welcome: :welcome:   keep us posted and the pics coming.
i love oregon wheelin.

gry93yota

Yeah well i was worried about how the would be on the road because we are making it dual purpose.
Does yours drive good how its set up?
And i will post some pics as soon as im able to.

Welcome. What part of NY?

The least expensive locker I have found is an Aussie Locker for just over $200. Put it in my kids truck and he beats the crap out of it. No problems for a couple years now. Only 31 inch tires though.

Typical locker behavior on the street.

Jamestown has got to be freezing right now. I'm originally from Buffalo and I thought it was bad, you guys were always colder.

Yeah its off and on this year november was actully one of the nicest months this year but i guess we a suppose to be getting bombed with snow in the next few days.
So were did you go from buffalo, and what do you got for yota's?

79coyotefrg

your not going to like having a welded diff if you drive on the road during winter in NY
an aussie or lockright would be your cheapest choice, or an elocker or ARB your best choices

gry93yota,

I went in the military when I was 19 and never looked back. Lived in Fla for a few years and have been in Az since 85. Forget cold climates and rust. I love it here.

The wife has an 08 FJ and I'm driving and modifying my 88 pickup. Used to have an 86 4Runner, 87 pickup, 98 4Runner, 02 Tacoma.

I also have an 88 Suburban 3/4 ton 4x4 with a small lift, locker, trick trans, and a blown small block. It used to be my boat puller/RV we used for camping. It's really ugly but it's a beast.

2manytoys,

Yeah i agree finding a solid yota around here is impossible with all the salt they put on the roads. Im hoping to move out to colorado when im finished with school at wyotech.
Its sounds like you have had ur share of toys what mods do u have done to the 88 pu and 08 fj.

79coyotefrg,
Thanks for the input, i was trying to avoid welding them but we are also on a buget but i looked into those aussie lockers and i think we will end up trying those out.
