Products I'd buy again
« on: Nov 30, 2009, 09:23:52 PM »
Ok as some of you know I've been blessed with some good fortune and write for 4WDTO Mag. Of the products I've gotten from the Mag or purchased since then. Here is a list of product that I'd buy or ask to test again.

Diamond Axles (its the Marlin Crawler of Axles)
Marlin crawler anything. Trannies or T-cases. Even when they mess up, they go out of their way to make it right.
LC Engineering Cam
Can-Back SoftTop
Longfields, they dont get any tougher. Go America
4x4 Labs Steering arms

Product I wouldn't test again.

Thorley Headers for a 3RZ. They make good stuff, just not for the 3RZ. Evil Government and those pesky smog req's.
ORS Suspension. Mike and the guys at that shop are/were freaking wonderfull. VERY VERY Good people. But the kit was lacking a bit from a design standpoint. Very much status quo.
Bumpers and rocker guards. No one makes good ones. (In my opinion) I want tougher stuff.

Since most everything on my truck is either a junkyard part, or Marlin, I don't have a whole lot to offer besides this...

Any Marlin product
Anything 4x4 Labs (all I currently have is Luke's HD front spring hanger and shackles and other misc stuff)
Warn winches
BFG Mud terrains (old style)
Goodyear MTR (old style)
Rock crawler rims
Bilstien shocks
Hi Lift jacks
The ORIGINAL Optima red top, mine is almost 10 years old and still working great. I hear they dont make em like they used to though now :(

I've since gone to the Marlin HD clutch in my 4runner, but I ran a Centerforce dual friction in my 4runner and the low end model Centerforce in my gf's 93 and if not for the price, I would buy Centerforce again.

If it fits and it works I don't plan on buying it again, that would be redundant. :gap:

Why wouldnt you get synthetic line under 3/8s?

Because, when you are seriously stuck you need it. 5/16" is to small. Thats what Viking off-road recommends.

If it fits and it works I don't plan on buying it again, that would be redundant. :gap:

for me, its been the  IF IT WORKS.

If it gets just the slightest fray in the line it will snap. I used my 5/16 twice and it later snapped winching it on the trailer, then i tied a know aroun the hook and used it to winch off a obstacle and it snapped at the knot. I just think 3/8 and bigger is far more durable.

All winch lines should be inspected after each trip out, provided they were used. Steel is by far more durable than the synthetic, but steel stretches and then you better be really quick on your feet. Synthetic has a certain saftey factor or feeling of safety at least. Perhaps someone will come out with a Chromoly cable.  :rofl2: (I dont care who you are that some funny S*#T right there)

All you ever have to do is throw a jacket or something over the center of the cable.  If it breaks on either end, the weight will pull it toward the center.  Don't stand by the middle of the cable and you'll be fine  ;)

Speedway stainless brakelines and adapters, their CroMo heims are very durable too.  Hell I have yet to buy anything from them I wasn't happy with.  Same with Marlin, good products from a great company.

As far as cable vs rope that's a no brainer, I'll take my 3/8" viking line from winchline.com any day.  Light and easy to drag if you need it and it is safe, no stored up energy to whip when it snaps.  You can put all the coats you want over cable and it will still whip if it breaks on one end.

What I won't buy again...  Some of the stuff I have bought from datinfab was drop shipped from TG so I gave it away rather than using it..
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??
