I've been wondering about these Smittybilt winches. I wonder how well they will hold up?

i was thinkin the xrc10 comp series.  I figured maybe because it is a little cheaper of a winch it might not pull as strong as a warn.  I had a warn 8000lb and i stalled it out a couple times.  I think the smittybuilt 8000lb would probly stall out easier than a warn 8000 but i could be wrong.  The other reason i'm thinkin i will go with the smittybuilt is because i dont think i will use it that much.  When i think back on it, basically the only time i had to use my warn winch was when i broke a front axle. Now i have longfields and hopefully i wont have to worry about that very much any more.

my dad had a t-max and it seemed to be way underpowered compared to his warn.  It also had chronic controller/switch issues that was really a PITA

i've had the smitty for about a year or so and its a great little winch. i caught it at 4wp for $249 and couldnt pass it up.  smitty updated the motor and a few other things and my winch is noticeably faster than my buddies older xrc8.  i dont think you will be dissapointed with it.

I went with the Warn 8000, I haven't finished wiring it up and testing it yet. I'll gladly give my thoughts when I get a chance to try it out.

$300 for my Smittybuilt 8000 winch.  used it about 6 or 7 times and finally broke the cable, but it was only about 3 feet of it.  put the hook back on and im gonna keep winching.  no problems with the motor or anything else.  best $300 i ever spent.  have it on an incab switch too.

I went with the Warn M8000

Same here.  Just ordered it last week.  I was planning on the Smittybilt XRC8 but found a deal on an M8000 that I couldn't pass up.  $486 ($520 after tax) for an M8000 shipped to my door for free + a wireless winch remote ($120 value).  I had never seen an M8000 under $500.  Figured now is as good of a time as any :D

I have one of these on my 3/4 Ton  tough as nails but it is to heavy for a front winch on a Toyota at almost 200#s with the wire wrope on it. On a full size rig it is great though mine has pulled a Jeep that was stuck in some really nasty mud in half before... Yes I said in half. Under 10,000 #s there is no stalling it with 2 batteries feeding it.

I vote the old school 8274 or 8000 model if you don't mind doing a little extra work of mounting and wiring them up INSIDE the dash . Just about everyone in my club runs an 8274 and they keep on pulling and working just as hard . When they go out we just rebuild . Heck with all the others ... I got an 8200 or 8000 model warn winch the one before the 8274 , for 200 bucks all it is has is power in no power out but does the same thing. I haven't mounted it yet but works great , it just needs new winch line .

I just put on a Warn Powerplant 12k and so far have been extremely satisfied. Only had to use it once, and on my little $Runner, it didn't even seem like it was working. It is a big pregnant dog however, and was a bit of a challenge to mount. I'ts very nice to have the compressor built in, and it works like a champ. I plan on switching to synthetic line ASAP to save on poundage, but not in a big hurry to spend another $250 on line.

I've had a M8000 for probably 15-20 years now, and other than maintenance, and having to replace the motor once (counter spun it like an idiot), it has pulled out a hundred or more rigs (yes, mine is included) and never once complained. It is a great little winch that will always do the job.

Had one of those pretty 5'6" blonde wenches too, but she made too much noise and couldn't even pull her own weight. Sold her to a buddy for a 6 pack and a promise that he wouldn't try to give her back when he got as irritated with her as I was. Not sure what ever happened with that one.

Shoulda traded the blonde for a brunette; they don't require as much maintenance I hear.

Anyways, got a Warn XD9000i on my junk (came with it) and it's pulled plenty of stuff out; the biggest being a new Ram 1500 crew cab that was in snow to the axles.
