NOOB from the DARK SIDE (the land of Jeeps!)
« on: Oct 27, 2009, 10:44:51 PM »
I am a newb to this forum, however not a newb to forums... anyways I will keep this short and try to include as many pictures as I can.

I bought a built 88 4runner off my good friend KDC (on the forum here) and I will be buying a 94 SR5 extra cab from another good friend, it's pretty much a frankenstein truck but the engine is recently rebuilt so its in good shape.

the idea:  Put the two together and build an AWESOME rig. Unfortunately I will be parting out the 4runner, It will be sad to see it go... I have gone on many wheeling trips when KDC owned it and it will be sad to be the executioner... however all the go-slow parts will be given a new home...

There will be A LOT of work to do, but I should go from a stock truck to a freshly painted, lifted, locked trail ready rig in less then 6 months... I just need to sell my jeep to fund it all... anyone want to buy my jeep??? :gap: :gap:

Stats:

4runner: 4" MC SAS lift, 4.88 gears, dual cases (4.7 in rear), e-locker front, lock right rear, LOTS-O-RUST!

94 P-up: Stock. Pre92 tranny, pre-92 engine, otherwise mostly stock

The PLAN!

I currently own the 4runner and it's sitting waiting to go under the knife.

I will buy the truck in the next two weeks probably (buying from a good friend) and then I will immediately bob the bed and then one I sell my jeep I will send it off to get painted (back to it's stock WHITE) I plan on using two stage paint.

THEN THE FUN BEGINS!

completely rebuild the front axle (MC kit) I will be using the knuckle SST to get it all perfect as well. then all at once install the dual cases and SAS the truck. should be very easy since I have two good friends that have done a few SASs.  I will probably throw in some twin sticks and install the front axle brace that I have.

Dont worry I will clean it all up before I switch it, the 4runner had a bad valve cover leak so it's had a great rust prevention underneath...

PICS!!!

Thats all I have so far... they dont look to bad for being taken with an iphone (at least the ones of the 4runner)

I will start a whole new thread when I start the build up, I will try and remember to link to it here.

the whole build up really depends on when I sell my jeep though.

Well yes, that and the fact that I could drive to moab and still have my hearing... My ears would be ringing after a drive from denver to moab (6hrs)in my jeep.

Creature comforts is really the 1st reason why I want a toyota... and the fact that I have kinda always wanted a toyota truck...

I can't wait to start building... I am so sick of my jeep having both metric and standard size bolts on it. I keep hearing that the toyotas use mostly three different sizes of nuts and bolts... I am excited. I know just about every bolt on my jeep and I am excited to do that all over again with the truck.

The jeep has a very mild lift. but it has a lot of nice extras. Corbeau Seats (baja SS) Roll cage (based of the stock cage) and my all time favorite, a York Compressor and 2.5 gallon tank. It's great for what I use it for... all it really needs is an 8.8 swap and it would be awesome...

...But it's no toyota!

Welcome to the Marlin board.  I've seen your posts on CO4x4.  You'll enjoy building a Toyota.  I've been trying to get out and wheel with your buddies KDC & Phazer2 for a couple of years now.  Make sure you introduce yourself in the Colorado section.  You also need to keep the end of July, start of Aug open so you and your buddies can come out and attend the annual Colorado 4Runner Jamboree.  We had 40+ rigs show up for 3 days of wheeling near BV.

Yeah I recognize your name from co4x4....

KDC is currently rigless (because thats his 4runner) but he is planning on buying a tacoma.

Phazertwo is about to have his rig back, he has been working on some carrier bearing relocation issues, not to mention his DD 4runner had the rear diff explode on him (got it fixed with a new gear set and an ARB)

I can't wait to start building, Phazertwo really knows his stuff so he will be crucial to my build... I will be going to moab in the spring, so I need to have something to wheel out there, I hope it's not my jeep!
