ok so i just picked up a locker assembly and after doing a bit of research here and there i noticed something... the ring gear size on my axle code is "A" as in 7.5... did i just buy the wrong e-locker.... its of a 1996 1/2 4runner limited the vin is jt3hn87r0t0039753.  the model num is  vzn184l-gkpzka and the code is a/tm a04a/a340f.

someone please clarify. im trying to install it on my 1979 toyota pickup 4x4 w l43 tranny.

The e-locker comes in a 8 inch and 8.4 inch i believe. I got my e-locker out of a 96 4Runner and it was the 8 inch. Your front and rear axles use the 8 inch version. 7.5 inch is used in 86-95 ifs front ends and i dont believe there is an e-locker in a 7.5 inch

A is the code for 7.5 in the trucks up till 1995,

no the 4runner i pulled the 3rd member is a 1996 1/2 4runner limited 4x4.
the truck its going in is a 1979 toyota pickup 4x4 with original diffs.

Like I mentioned when you called in, if the diff is from the back end of a 4x4 then it should be an 8" (wouldn't be an 8.4" as the e-locker was only offered in teh 8" at that time). You hadn't mentioned how you realized it to be a 7.5" diff. I would try to verify the ring gear size as the code could be different in the newer vehicles. The only 7.5 truck diffs are the back end of 4 cyl. 2wds and the front end of IFS Hilux's and Tacomas.
