I'm hoping that's a Yuengling :talkingn: Yep, I'm living in eastern PA for the moment (born and raised, except for the last few years), might be relocating to Wild and Wonderful WV sometime in the next year or so

hey sick rig man  welcome to marlin. i noticed you had hood vents? do those things really work for cooling the engine? i heard that they can cool it by 45 degrees...im thinkin of getting some cuz i run really hot for some reason...just wanted to know if they actually work. thanks.

I wouldn't believe any claims for a specific temp reduction because it's all very dependant on where the vents are, how fast you're traveling, ambient temps, etc.  From what I can tell, they work.  In the winter, the spot above the vents are the first to melt through and last winter when I popped my radiator hose I got early warning via coolant spray on the windshield :)  Never actually measured the underhood temps though to verify how effective they are.

The vents I used are from a Ford T-bird turbo coupe, got them in a junkyard for < $10.  Take a walk through your local bone yard, there are usually plenty of late 80s/early 90s t-birds in there.  If you face them rearwards, they pull air out of the engine bay which should help pull air through the radiator.

yeah thats a good idea....i dont want em for looks...my truck just runs really hot...specially being black bedliner which sucks in heat and keeps it in the engine bay....and its like 100plus here daily...anywho thanks for the input dude. should help my engine out quite well

everything was bolt-on except for the radiator (although I have heard of people running a Toyota V6 radiator and making it work, not sure if they used the 5MGE engine mount brackets though or welded their own)

Very nice runner. Love the engine swap. Got any pics of the engine swap? Was it a pain in the ass to swap the engine? I have an 87 turbo auto 4runner but I'm thinking about swapping it out for some thing else

That seems like an ideal motor to swap in. Any idea on the mileage?

I get 19.5 mpg on road no matter how I drive it - highway, stop/go in town doesn't matter, and I'm not generally light on the throttle.   Coming cross country pulling the 5x8 enclosed trailer (~3500 lbs) we got 17 mpg. The only time I ever measured offroad mileage was in Big Bear, CA and it got 15 mpg crawling around and idling

hehehe - just got 33x10.5 KM2's and I'm gonna test them out next weekend at Rausch Creek (supposed to be raining, so the muck factor should be pretty good)

with my 32's the 4.56 gears were perfect - speedo was even correct.  Now with the 33's, it's just a bit slower than I want + I do tow with this, so I'm thinking 4.88's will put me right back where I want to be.  Just got my 4.88 front diff (need to swap the LSD over), next is a  set of Yukon gears for the back and a solid pinion spacer - still not sure if I want to set these up myself or not.

   i hope to see you on the trail one of these days i would love to have a look at the runner and share some stories

Yeah, you won't regret 4.88's - much more fun with "smaller" tires + it'll give you a bit of room to grow in tire size

Just ordered for my e-locker 3rd :D and I'm gonna have the guy that sets up the rears in my friend's small block modified help me set these up.

I towed my 3k lb towable backhoe down to WV and back last weekend and didn't notice any power loss with the 4.56s and 33s, but my old front and rear diffs will be up for sale in a few weeks anyway
