we've had those little bastards here in southern nevada for years... they can run freakin' fast too.

Them suckers can get to nearly half a foot long with their legs spread out.  They're generally just annoying and related to scorpions.  No venom, though, thankfully.

The biggest, the goliath tarantula, is almost a foot.  Here is an extract from a pet manual on them:

***
EASE OF CARE     Experienced. Not suitable for beginners

TEMPERAMENT     This species is aggressive and has an unreliable temperament. It will make an audible hissing sound when annoyed. Best not handled.

They are pretty common throughout the United States. We even have them here in CA at an elevation of 4,000 feet. The ones here are very small though, maybe half an inch at the largest. I used to catch them all the time as a kid. I believe there are over 900 different species worldwide. They are definitely a lot more common in the desert states and they get larger there than they do here in Northern CA.

When I was in Iraq we would shoot those f  ers with our M-4s. They can jump so far.
The reason  they are called camel spiders is because they lay there eggs inside the camel. When the eggs hatch the babies will begin to eat the insides of the camel and kill it. There was a guy in our unit that had a camel spider burrow into his calf at night. He never felt it until he woke up, and he freeked out. The doc cut him open right there and the damn thing came out and tried to escape. However 20 marines were around watching this and the lil spider never  had a chance.

Kill em all

Kill em all

Your getting reality confused with the movie "Aliens" again.  :hahaha:

No way could one of those burrow into a human leg without them noticing.

It was pretty big, about the size of a regular tarantula. at the widest part, Id say 3.5 inches.
