Heres the deal i was starting to climb a fall and didnt really seem to be bound up but did have the dual ultimates in double low and all i hear is BANG! And now my truck wont move in forward or reverse. Im guessing a rear output shaft but i would imagine i would hear the 2 halves of the shaft hitting each other unless it was a straight break and maybe the 2 halves seperated a little. So what do you think? Output, Input maybe something in the tranny? Specs are

just bang, no grinding,clanking,or nuthin?

Tallchevy

Drain some oil out of each t-case & the tranny. The metallic color or chunks of metal might tell you which case has the problem.

No metal chunks or flakes out of either t-case. Fluid was full and looked good.

Is there a way to check this prior to pulling the t-case?
Any other ways to check for the output being broken? If i remove the driveline and with the trans in gear will the output turn freely if broken?

TIMS89CRAWLER

anybody wanna put $50 on the 2nd case input? i have seen so many of these break with a single pop and nothing else... when gear oil was drained there were no metal chunks either just a clean broken shaft! thats the first place I would look unless your running 23 spline total splines then its a different story if its a stock input then i guarantee thats the issue.... let us know

I think its a 23 total spline Since they were built at Marlin and I think thats what they put in their 23 spline dual ultimates. I am going to pull the t-case's but wanted to order a output tomorrow if thats the problem and wont be able to pull the case's until i can get it to my dads to use the lift.

Steve_925

could it be somthing with the clutch?

I'd wait till I pulled the cases and checked them out, no sense in buying unnecessary parts.

87pickup

I will pull them asap but i just pulled the drivelines and the rear t case flange is movin around quite a bit. About up and down 1/4 in both directins and pulled out about 3/8 of an inch.

I bet its that output shaft man, definatley (was) the weakest link in your drivetrain. Id say order the long output monday if you have the cash. If youre pullin cases out anyways now is the time to put one in. By the way let me know if you need a hand pullin it apart.

It broke about as clean and straight as it gets. No wonder there was no noise and no metal in the cases.

jonathan82toy

Nice!   If you want to ship that back here, I can get it back to you before MC8
