should mud flaps keep the 5-0 away? or will they still pop ya for stability issues?

bigarms23

in my case since im a full width dd crawler the mud flaps keep the cops at bay and so do the fender flares seem to work as well they dont really care about tippy

BAMF

Mud flaps and fender flares will keep the fix-it tickets away as long as you have no other mechanical issues (broken taillight, more than 4 forward facing lights, cracked windshield, etc).  The biggest thing that will keep you from being pulled over is your driving style. :driving:
All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent.

haha ya true that but then again, i go slow on the road with my crawler haha

junya92toy

I only ever got stopped for no mud flaps. Of course the last cop lost interest in that when he found out I had a gun and never told him.

I have hear dof it, but i have yet to find it.  i know you cant have more than 4 forward facing lights that are on, this includes fog lights.  there is also a rule on high beams/flood lights and how far they car shine in front of your vehicle.  i also vaguely remembering something about spotlights and having a bulb over 50w?  idk it seemed like a catch all off road light code.  let me see what i can find and ill try to get some quotes put up.

It all depends on what state you live in, and the mood the cop is in at the time.  Here in CA you I believe you can't have anymore than 4 uncovered forward facing lights at all,  on or off, it doesn't matter.  The height of the uncovered lights is also an issue.  While the wattage of a light is technically an issue, it is more of where the forward facing light is mounted.  You can have an uncovered 130watt KC's on your grill guard or bumper and be fine, but a if you have an uncovered light on on your light rack(even if it doesn't work) you can/will get popped.  The lights location not its wattage itself is the probable cause issue, i.e., cop can't tell from his patrol car what wattage of light you have(unless on), only its location.  IIRC, correctly the CA legislature has also banned blue tinted lights, though I believe that applies to the future sale, not those currently in use.

In CA, if the lights are not DOT approved, then they must be covered.  You also cannot use fog lights without normal headlights on, and fog lights cannot be used while hi-beams on.  As for mudflaps and fix-it tickets, easy solution, marry a cops daughter, like I did.  I will have to ask about how many forward lights you can have.

even if you have offroad lights on yer bumpers / grill guard they have to be covered at least in oregon

baja dan

i got pulled over in san diego downtown for no mud flaps. i tried to fix it went to a different sd police officer and the sob says to me "It looks like you have more issues than just mudflaps, you need fenders (this is on a flatbed by the way) catalityc convertor, doors and a bunch of other crap that had nothing to do with nothing long story short i payed a very big fine for no mudflaps. i dont drive it on the street hardly anymore.

GONZO97

a couple months ago i was driving through my small town of fowler and never thought the cops would ever pull me over for anything.(since theres only like one on patrol a day) but anyways pulls me over and said that i rolled a stop sign which wasnt true so he decides to give me a fix it ticket on three infractions tint, mud flaps, and no rear bumper, keep in mind the tires were A/T and i didnt have my rear bumper on because i was building a new tube bumper which i was very proud of. so luckily i know people who will sign off my tickets for me but its still 75 dollars ill never get back!!!!! but if you have mud flaps they should leave you alone

In CA, if the lights are not DOT approved, then they must be covered.
While DOT lights are not allowed to be used on the highway, you can't get pulled over for them providing they aren't above the vehicles headlights(or maybe it is the windshield).  Nobody can tell w/o looking at the lens of a light whether it is DOT approved or not, therefore an officer doesn't have probable cause to pull you over for the light alone, just its location.  Of course you can still get pulled over and cited for them, but it will be easy to beat the ticket in court if that is all you were cited for, or the citing officers states that as the initial reason for the traffic stop.

how do you get that cheap tint off  is there something you spray so it will come off mines waaaay to dark and im sure im gonn get nailed for it

There is no need to take your truck to a tint shop, you can do it yourself in about 5 minutes.  All you need is a spray bottle of water and hand held razor blade, or one one of the razor blade gasket scrapers.  Roll down the window so you can get to the top edge, take the razor blade and slide it between the film and the glass along edge of the window.  Once you have enough worked up you can usually pull it off in one piece, sometimes a few if the film has been deeply scratched.  Once you remove the film you have to remove the adhesive.  To do this spray the window w/some water and use the razor to scrape the glue off of the window.  Make sure to hold the razor so that you don't scratch the glass.

Here in CA, anything more than 35-40%(blockage of light) tint on the front passenger or drivers window and you are almost guaranteed to get pulled over it.
