Adding AC? How hard?
« on: Jul 20, 2009, 05:58:52 PM »
Hello There!

I have found a super clean 1983 that I really would like to have as my DD.  My problem is the truck did not come from the factory with AC.  How hard is it to find all the parts to make this truck a cool commuter?  I am mechanically capable I am only worried about actually being able to locate the parts, maybe there is a website that carries this stuff?  Let me know if you can help I need to jump on this truck fast if I don't want to loose it!

Its not bad at all actually.

I spent 100 bucks and got it from a guy who had everything. The hardest part is drilling the holes for the evaporator but theres little indentations that indicate where you need to drill. Pretty cool.

Got it and charged it and it blew ICE COLD. It was so nice on rubicon with the AC blasting.

In my case, my rig already had a/c. I just had to get it up and running. Eventhough I had to sell off my 1st born and one of my arms and a leg, I had r-12 put in like factory. Did you look at the link I posted for ya?

Hey guys thanks for the response!  I am going to get the truck tomorrow!  She looks REALY clean so I am very excited.  I checked out that link to the AC stuff for under the dash, I may have to grab that!  I tried looking at all 97 pages of the above Link but I am not gonna lie I'd had a few drinks and never saw anything about AC LOL.  I'll look again today when we get back from Faxing the papers back to the bank.  Thanks again guys and if anyone has a decent deal on the underhood AC items or knows where to find them please let me know!  Pic's to come soon!

OK AC is now the last thing on my mind!  So i test drove my truck and she ran great!  Paid my $3,000 and started my 300 mile drive home, at mile 140 the bottom end of the motor let go at 60 MPH!  After a $460 tow bill the last 152 miles she is now in the garage.  I'll make a new post now becaue I need to find a place to get a nice 22r long block and some answers.  Thank you in advance for all your great help!

Yeah not the greatest day of my life LOL.  Here is the Link to my new thread... http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=60492.0

The only picture I have right now is...

I purchased a new engine puller yesterday and the search for what failed begins today!  I'll have my lovely wife shoot a few pic's while I start the teardown.  With any luck it's something I can fix however I am pretty certain she spun a main bearing.  More news today!
