misfire on 22re
« on: Jun 30, 2009, 10:06:38 AM »
so i just finished putting in my dual cases this weekend. but when i went to move it out off the garage i noticed it wasn't running right. so i spent the next few hours trying to figure out what it was. i noticed that when i pulled the spark plug wire on the number 2 cylinder it wouldn't idle down like the other wires a pulled. so i guess it is only running on 3 cylinders. all the wires and plugs are new along with the cap are new. maybe injector?? idk tell me what you think it could be. i can be full throttle and it will just hit like 1500 rpms then drop. like im hitting the rev limiter. it back fires  a little but not a hole lot.  i can't figure out why the #2 cylinder is misfiring.maybe its a ring problem.   ill do a compression check today.

Are you getting spark to all the cylinders?

Black means its running too rich. Esp if its wet. Check your compression. Does your oil look normal?

The #2 cylinder opening in the intake plenum is right under the cold start injector.

If the cold-start injector is leaking, it could possibly affect cylinder #2

Sounds like you pretty much just answered your own question right there   Hook a timing light to each plug wire and verify that it's sparking on each cylinder.

If the other plugs are black and wet I would check the air flow meter. Mine got stuck open and resulted in similar symptoms.

My truck had the same problem, just one day it started missing all the time. it turned out to be a bad #3 injector.

x2 on what kneedownate said, check the easiest thing first, that would be spark. sounds like you already found the cylinder its missing on. if theres spark, i would do a leak down test on the injectors and a compression test. Let us know what you find.

Edit: one other thought, another thing you could check is that te injector is firing correctly (noid light). But you mentioned the plug appeared wet (let me guess it smelled like gas). ---> ECM/harness is probably fine.
