TRE Taper FJ80 vs Pickup IFS
« on: Apr 21, 2009, 09:45:22 PM »
Back when I did my SAS in a weekend and was trying to go cheap as possible I used my factory TRE's for the crossover steering. I used the IFS box style pitman and cut it off right at the joint and used a step drill bit as a makeshift reamer to get by for a couple trail runs. Now I'm looking for a flat pitman with the ifs style TRE taper and have had no such luck. I've got my old pitman off the taco setup for 1ton gm but it's huge compared to the TRE's I'm working with. After calling around today I heard that the taper of the fj80 rod end and the ifs rod end are close, so I figured I'd go up to the parts store and check how close they are...wrong...no one had a fj80 rod end in stock :willynilly:. And I'm not sure enough of the info I got to drop a hundred bucks on a pitman with the wrong taper. I would just buy a fj80 rod end and be done with it but that's going to cause me to totally rework the draglink. Does anyone know anything about the taper differences of these two? :dunno:

Sorry I didn't answer the phone. My sleeping scedule is all messed up.
It didn't look to me like you needed the flat pitman arm. Some well placed bump stops would solve your problems, and keep your spring pack in good condition.

Call and ask if the threads are the same as what your building with. You might save some money by buying this instead of a new pitman arm.

Pretty sure those are for their crossover kits which will probably use fj80 threads.
