I ran a 1600lb with my 22RE with duals 35's and 5.29s great clutch, wish they had one for the 3RZ. This clutch is better for crawling than a Centerforce, Centerforce clutches are made for high RPM use as they have rollers that tighten the pressure plate pressure grip as RPMS increase.

It's stop and go traffic and the fact that you gotta gun it hard to survive with a lot of weight and not much HP...

That said, I have the 1600lb non-ceramic in mine and I've smoked it twice in a bit over two years.  I've let it slip and done silly and stupid things with it more times than I can remember and only got caused it to get hot and smell funny twice.  I'm positive that the OEM would have been toast long ago.  Before this I had a Centerforce and it was... odd.

Why?  Because while it worked, it felt like your clutch was half dead and slipping until it hit about 2K rpms.  Very mushy and then it got tighter - odd feeling.  Like the first stage of the "dual friction" setup was a torque converter or you were driving a SMT something.  Durable, though.  Didn't leave me stranded.

i've got the 1600 CERAMIC in my 84 22R and it's grabby as hell. it doesn't slip one bit. EVER! lol i use it as a daily driver and when it eats through my flywheel enough i'm gonna get a 1600 non ceramic. i've heard nothing but good stuff about it. also as a DD the ceramic is a bear and you've gotta get your RPMs good and high before you take off or take off slow.
lets not and say we did.

other than the obvious holding power is there an absolute advantage of the 1600 over the 1200? Any reason to get the 1200 over the 1600? Im about to order me one and dont quite know which one to get.

What are you looking for in a clutch?  What is the application, stock truck, modified, big tires??  It all revolves around that.  If all you have is a stock truck with stock size tires, there's really no reason to go with the heavier duty clutch, the 1200 should do all you need to.

I run a stock napa clutch in mine and its fine with geared duals and 38s.... I think its 75% how u drive it. I just dont see that reason for the crazy high lbs clutches. :twocents:

truck drivetrain specs as of right now,
83 longbed
-stock 22r other than msd ign.
-33in bfg muds
-4.10's in the axle
-aussie in the rear

I pull my 13ft skiff, 18ft skiff, 10ft utility trailer, and am regularly loading down the truck with random crap. Will eventually go to 35's and regear to 5.29 or 4.88. Probably wont go bigger than that for a good while.
So far i havent had a problem with the stock clutch at all, until some stupid mud and now it feels like absolute crap. So i figured why not upgrade now.

Ya, the 1600 is only 20 bucks more than the 1200.    Go with the 1600.

I say Marlin 1600 for tires 35 inch and larger, possibly with 33's on a 4Runner.  I've run the 1600 on a truck with 33's and the 1200 on my 4Runner with 35's and the "line" is somewhere in between.

Yeah - stock is actually 900lbs, IIRC(Napa crud) and it gets eaten up quick towing.  My 1600lb got a bit hot towing but nothing that did any damage.(mostly cause I'm not used to towing 3000 lbs)
