Dont clock them in too much or you will have no stability in the rear when you are at speeds, assuming the truck is driven on the road. the only thing the shock do clocked in is for more flex but if its trailed then that what you want for more flex.

1st:  I'd check to make sure it's actually the shock limiting your flex.

It'd really suck to buy new shocks, or do alot of fabwork to relocate them, then find out your 4" rancho springs flex like a poooo.  Then find out you have to redo/rebuy when you buy better springs..

If you can identify the shock, and find it's full extended length online, then next time you lift it, measure the shock and verify that the shock is actually limiting it.

what about your brake lines? if it was lifted enough to max your shocks...i would check those also.  :twocents:

Do your self a favor and remove your rear shocks from the axle mount and see just how much more flex you can get.

That is a good idea to get a baseline of how much flex is even possible.

put them into an /\ frame trail gear sells the shock mounts for the axle to do it yourself or you can by a kit from off-road solutions.  Just make sure the top shock mounts when relocating are about 12 inches apart and put the bottom mounts as close the the leafs as possible.  I would also check your leafs?

If you take the shocks off to see the true amount of flex you actually have the only thing to be wary of is the brake line. you could very easily rip it off the rig. When testing very slowly articulate the axles making sure you don't run out of line.

anyways, just take the shocks off...measure your compression and droop....give or take at least 3/4 inch each way and thats how long your shocks need to be

No, it won't hurt anything at all.  I actually DD'd my truck with no rear shocks for a few years.  As of now, it still doesn't have shocks on it

I'd actually mount them like in the second photo if it is a highway rig/daily driver.  Fast lane changes and having the entire back end wobble or lean on you isn't that great..

Looks like your getting as much flex as you can with an IFS truck.  But do like was recommended and remove the shocks, so you can measure how much flex you have the capability of.  Make sure you have a buddy watching your brake line while doing so.  As long as you're running IFS, your limiting your ability to flex anyway, but getting a little more in the rear might be nice.

Also, before you remove your shocks, measure them at "Full Extension" then measure them again at full extension after they have been removed.  This will help to confirm that the shocks ARE the limiting factor.

If you do decide to reposition the top mount onto the crossmember, keep in mind that the farther they are from perpendicular to the axle, the less they will help.

Drive to the place where your going to test your suspension then unbolt & remove the shock from the lower mount. Flex it up & see if you get more flex.

As far as relocating your rear shocks, you can use the 2wd ubolt plates from an 84 & up. The 2wd trucks are a spring under axle. Use the plate & mount it to the top of the spring like in the pic's above. The nice thing about using the 2wd plates is that it keeps the shock mounts in the stock location but moves it to the top of the spring. Just make sure that you don't top out the shock. You still might have to get different shocks.
