here is some more tech.  im working on making some 5th stud steering arms.
i got some 1/2" plate from the local scrap yard for $0.50.   i went to my buddy shop and he cut it out into 4 pieces.
then i ground them clean, and ground the top of the knuckle flat.
ive got one all welded up. i still need to drill the 5th hole and im going to weld the head of the 5/8" bolt on the inside of the knuckle.

boggerunner

and the rest. i will finish these up tomorrow

bhigdon101

will the head of the bolt hit the birfield ??

can someone show pic's of the clearance between the birfield and the knuckle??
i have a front end but have not tore it apart yet...
waiting on more parts....

i am going to do the 5 stud's but i will use the dana 44 stud's they are 9/16 fine thread..
then i will drill out by stud holes for the lockouts to 7/16 fine thread for some bob long
drive flanges and drill some 5/16 dowel pins (6 of them)

thanks brian higdon...
daddy always said "if your going to be stupid, you better be tough"

boggerunner

there is a pocket for the bolt to fit in, hold on a few and i will go snap a pic

boggerunner

i got a pic and i also measured the clearence, and there is more than 3/4" for the head of the bolt.  the head of the bolt will be right between the 2 dimples.

boggerunner

got the drivers side finished up today. i used a grade 8 1/2" fine thread bolt with a locknut for the 5th stud.  on to the pics.

I will get these finished tomorrow and get them on the truck.  i will need to clearence the head of the bolt a little.

its a cheap mod too, ive got about 3 hrs time and $2.50 in bolts and $0.50 in steel.
i will eventually swap the 4 studs out to arp ones, but this will keep me from breaking them in the meantime.  i also left a gap between the new piece and the knuckle for shims like the top.

I like the way you did this one.... I am gonna do something like this when I get my new studs and longfields... nice work

i think this is a neat idea. is the stud welded in the knuckle? from the pics it either looks welded or you put some sort of sealer in there... just wondering because if its welded hopefully the stud never strips out

damn thats, easy. Great job! let us know how it holds up

boggerunner: how are these holding?

boggerunner

they were holding up great, but i sold them and parted out the truck they were on, they wont work with front range offroads taco brake kit cause u have to swap the pass and driver side knuckles
