dual case problems..
« on: Jan 22, 2009, 08:17:08 PM »
So I just put my dual t cases in my truck and it was making a wining noise, from there i talked ot my friends filled it up from the shifter now  so i did this and it seemed to fix it then a couple miles later it started doign it again. Does any one know what the problem could be or has had it? The bad part is my rear case is unknown because i had to use my old case for the reduction box because its a forward shift tranny.

did you put a quart in the crawl box as well as filling the rear case? also could the noise be coming from your transmission?

I run 1 quart in my crawl box (filled through the shifter) then I fill the rear case through the fill hole till it comes out the hole.... use 80W-90 gear oil also

ok ill do that and i have shittyy oil think that could be a factor? its 85 140 thats all that knechts had i just wanted it to be driveable till i can get everything dialed in and i can get it changed for free at oil can henrys thats what my plan was i just didnt think that the oil being thinner would make that much of a difference considering its still gear oil

I am definitely not an expert on it, but the duel cases make quite a bit of noise when driving down the road even if they are filled to the proper level. My cases were installed by ORS with the MCR10 adapter. The shop owner took me for a ride before I picked the truck up to let me hear how much louder it would be than when I had a single t-case. Also, I have a FROR x-member so that is probably contributing to the noise/vibration.

I don't recall my dual cases making any more noise then before they were installed. Hmmmm Sounds a bit funny to me. I'd make sure that the cases have the right amount of a good quality gear oil. Could also put in some Lucas Oil treatment or some other stabilizer (royal purple?). I've also heard that there can be some whining for a while while the bearings seat, but don't have first hand experience with this.

do you know what year you cases are? cause the early t-cases are known for having a wining noise especially when put in to duals. does it make the noise all the time or just in certain gears?
